Re: Media Composer v2.8.3 / NewsCutter v2.8.3 Released

     Hi all,

I've got one question about updating from MC v2.8.1 to MC v2.8.3.

Do I have to uninstall the v2.8.1 before insatlling v2.8.3?

When I did the upgrade from AXP v5.8 to MC v2.8.1 I didn't uninstall and then I had some problems.

    thanks

Re: Media Composer v2.8.3 / NewsCutter v2.8.3 Released

I'm ready to beat my brains in...

I have not PAID for a service contract so that I can obtain the 2.8.3 version of MC (I have purchased in the last few weeks a new copy that came as 2.8.1), and the guest account Registration thing sends me an email with OUR COMPLIMENTARY SERVICE ACCESS CODE IS xxxxx of course a number, which does NOT work as a password.  I tried entering it as an ID but of course that failed too.  I have a user id and password that works to get me to an account but not to the downloads.

PLEASE give detailed instructions in what EXACT steps to take...

I'm so frustrated I can hardly type...

Did you complete this registration for for the DL center?

After you complete the request, a password will be emailed to you. Please be patient as Avid is backlogged with registrations right now.

I am wondering why I am providing this when it clearly states I can have vers 3 when its available..

Where did you find this information?  I think I must be missing something obvious, because I can't seem to find it.

    Thanks,

Re: Media Composer v2.8.3 / NewsCutter v2.8.3 Released

I'm confused why the registration process is needed for 2.8.3 but not for 2.8.0.  Did something change?  Why such tight security just to get the download when a dongle is needed to run the program anyway, and when we can download so many other versions of these products?

    Thanks,

    Larry

Re: Media Composer v2.8.3 / NewsCutter v2.8.3 Released

So the email I received is not the password...what is it then?  ..Seems to be confusing to send an email back confirming the Registration, supplying an ACCESS CODE (sounds like a password to me....), along with a Registration ID, (sounds like a User ID, but the system insists on an email address), but at any rate these don't appear to be passwords....

I'm sending the contents of that in an email so you can see exactly what I got back from Avid after completing the DL center registration form....

PS, I agree with others...AVid had the hardware dongle, confirmed by a SysID and Serial number entry.... now we have to go through other registration hoops which appear to be entered by hand according to other posts I've read.... Help > Update is usually a better way to do this...

Was the email actually terming what you received a "password", or was it Access Code, or something else?

Re: Media Composer v2.8.3 / NewsCutter v2.8.3 Released

Greg, You are confusing two different upgrade steps. The upgrade code supplied with your purchase is to use to register and upgrade your dongle. Because your dongle is current for th current major release, this step is not necessary for you.

As of the x.8.3 releases, Avid has changed the location of it's downloads. All downloads will now be obtained from the DL center. The one catch with this is, in order to go forward, the entire Avid user base needs to register with the DL center to get access.

So, for now, put aside the upgrade key, follow the link I gave you and fill out the registration request. You'll have your password very soon. If you don't, PM me and I'll take care of it for you.

Re: Media Composer v2.8.3 / NewsCutter v2.8.3 Released

So your original post said this....

Avid Media Composer v2.8.3 and Avid Newscutter v6.8.3 are now available from the Avid Download Center at no charge to active Avid Support COntract customers and any cusomers that are running x.7.x or higher and are entitles to the x.8.3 editors.  For those that do not have a download center account, please go here.

    I tried both links.

The first asks me for a user ID and password....okay , so user ID is my email address but of course I have no password since I haven't been able to log in yet...so that's not the choice...

So the 2nd link that says "here' takes me to the Avid Download Registration Center, which is what I entered before to get the email from Avid which you are now saying is the Dongle registration and not what I should be using to register for the 2.8.3 upgrade....

So am I expecting to get a 2nd email from the one registration I performed?  (Ignore the first email I received because I don't need that one...)....if that's the case then the process of receiving two emails, one to toss out, should be explained....]

Of course I'm confused....how many others are too?

I do appreciate your help tho...

This is what I wrote above. You need to follow the instructions. It's not that confusing really. Just click the link I have provided twice now and you will receive a password for the DL center.

    Register, receive password, download software.

    very simple.

In addition, that post has nothing to do with me. It was posted by the moderator of this forum.

Re: Media Composer v2.8.3 / NewsCutter v2.8.3 Released

Nope, doesn't happen that way...  Yes, I entered the registration at that link...

Register, receive email without password (has Access Code, which I was told was not the password for the DL center...)...so no download of software.....(I tried the Access Code as a password too, just in case, no luck).....   or is that register, wait for some days or a week or whatever to get the password, then comes the next Tech Surprise ....?  My point before is that it's confusing for Avid to respond to the Registration with an email that doesn't contain the info to continue the process...it's totally misleading...

For anybody that's registered in the last day or so, how long will it take for them to get their password emailed to them?

Sorry if I repsonded to the incorrect poster....   I read a response to my post and clicked reply....

    So, one more time....

You need to wait. It's not instantaneous. You will receive a password in the next day or two.

My question is why the wait?  Why isn't it automated like so many other sites -- including sites where you actually give credit card numbers and make financial transactions?  As far as I can remember, even the Avid store did not have this waiting period.  The Download Center is a free registration that anybody can get, so why the higher security?  I have no problem with registration, but why not automate it and make it faster?  Why use a "stone age" approach for such a low security situation?

The bottom line is that Avid made it real easy to buy from them, but when it comes to actually downloading the latest version, we suddenly have to "be patient" and wait up to 3 days.  This just isn't a very "consumer friendly" practice, and given the situation, it seems utterly unnecessary.
