When I tried to login with what I thought would be a good password, they reset my password and sent me a new one.

That was my experience too, except that I had been sent a log-in password.  I attempted to use it, failed, then received not one but two more emails fortunately both with the same new password, which worked.

I guess there are quite a few wrinkles in the system.

Re: Media Composer v2.8.3 / NewsCutter v2.8.3 Released

I work in a shop where up to 70 editors may create user settings (it's never been that many, but it could in theory).  I'm currently testing v2.8.3 on my machine only and ran into a display bug that I'm not sure existed in earlier versions, or if it's exclusive to v2.8.3.  I've never seen it before so I'll put the bug report in this thread.

If there are exactly 36 user settings on the PC, the user settings pulldown in the Project Select box will severely truncate to only about 5 or 6 characters wide.  If it's 35 or below, the pulldown operates normally.  If it's 37 or more, the pulldown correctly wraps to create another column.

Even with 36 users, once inside the application, the user settings pulldown in the Project Window worked fine.

Never had that many editors, but I'll mention it to Avid.

As a workaround, you could create subfolders and group editors by name; i.e., A-F, G-K, etc. and then you'd limit each folder to less than 36.

Actually, I posted the easiest workaround.  Either delete an unused user setting, or just create a dummy user setting.  In other words, do something so that you don't have exactly 36 settings.

YOu can also nest your users in folders to get around  the 36 File problem. We used to have a folder for day editors or a folder for night or even by project.

We have some "older" machines here that were purchased in 2006 they currently are running Avid Express. We were told by our sales person that they would run Media Composer 2.8.3.

Do you have a list of System specifications required for 2.8.3 so that I can verify this??

BTW, these are PC's not Apple products.

    Thanks

Are you talking about Avid Express or Xprress 'Pro? 'Cause I'm pretty sure that any CPU qualified to run Avid Xpress is way too far out of date for any of  the software only versions.

PC specs can be found on the avid.com/products page of this site.

It may take a little longer. They are swamped with registrations. If it goes more than a week, let me know and we'll get into it.

They are available immediate when you are registered. Unfortunately the system for registration has been very clogged with overwhelming demand. I didn't say it would be a week but, if you don't hear by then, we can make sure you haven't fallen through the cracks.

Customer Patch Releases are available from the Avid Download Center at no charge to active Avid Support Contract customers and any customers that are running x.7.x or higher and are entitled to the x.8.3 editors.

I wish Avid would sort this out.. I upgraded to Composer 4 days ago.. applied to the Download centre and have been told I'm not elidgible for access.. which is interesting as i'm entitled to a free version 3 when its released.. anyone have any idea how ill be getting that?

Did you get your registration password from avid after you registered with the DL canter? It's taking them a while to get them all out. You'll probably have it in a day or so.

no I got an email from  Jesse saying I wasn't allowed access as I didn't have a support contract.. when I challenged her on that she now wants me to provide proof of purchse of the upgrade. I realise you guys are having teething problems but seriously - I only bought it a week ago... I am wondering why I am providing this when it clearly states I can have vers 3 when its available..

of course getting it is another thing without download centre access..
