Embarrassed [:$] My first 2K online, need help!

    Hello!

S16mm sequence shot at 150fps (slow motion sequence).

PAL Digibeta Rushes (punch holed at 01:00:00:00)

    24p PAL avid project type.

Rough sequence with handles made, EDL generated (using default options for CMX3600)

EDL used by labs to do 2K scans

While scans were being done I copied the 'EDL sequence', decomposed it, linked the newly generated sub-clips to the PAL footage and edited a sequence with transitions and effects (the desired cut of the this sequence). I assume once the 2k files are linked up, everything will link up, including my 'new' sequence.

NOW.....I've never used DS before Embarrassed and we're getting the scans back tomorrow and planning to online on Tuesday.....

WHAT DO I DO NEXT ????

thanks for ANY help ! Big Smile

With all honesty, my advice would be to call a DS freelancer.  If you have never used DS before, a 2k online is not the place to start.

    Are you outputting 2k?

"With all honesty, my advice would be to call a DS freelancer."

I agree, but this is a student production, personally financed, and with a budget under £500 lol....so getting a freelance DS operator is out of the question, we need to work this out for ourselves. What we do have is time....and determination Smile

We were planning on outputting 1080p and a down-converted PAL SD copy. But having a 2K image sequence at the end for archive would be nice.

EDIT: We know MC and Symphony very well and have read as much DS training/tutorials I could find, I just don't know the specific procedure for a 24fps file based conform from a 24p PAL avid project.

EDIT2: We wanted to try a DS workflow (As opposed to Metafuze) since it is the 2K workflow suggested by Avid. There must be some sort of documentation for this (maybe the DS manual will help lol)..

ANY help / guidance will be appreciated, even possible glitches and workarounds etc...

    Toby

"what version of DS do you have?"

    Version 8

    "who is creating the scans?"

The scans were created by Technicolor on a Spirit, named relative to frame number (frame number +9000 I think).

<d> you might want to go to 8.4 with the latest QFE a there's a fix for reading DPX headers in there... if you need it atall... you'll really need it.

<d> You may have to run a 3D LUT... i use KDM, but Baselight & Rising Sun have similar (or better on offer) KDM's a bit old by now, and not very flexiable... but when i first  started using it, it was the only game in town.

I agree with Gus on this.  And I would add that if I were you I would put out a friendly plee to all the good DS folks around on this list.  Tell us where you are located and your schedule.  Since you obviously have had some help getting where you are so far on a limited budget, maybe a good DS user would be willing to sit in with you.  The DS group is keen on building new users for a great box.  If you were in the Wash DC area, I'd offer some help.

    Good luck,

    Jef
