I am guessing that I have my anser but does anyone know if there's a proceedure to get a QT export with the clip's timecode attached? Not a window burn but actual embedded time code so that the player can read it.
Just reachin out to see if there's any new news.
thanks,
Don't trust the internet...
Partial good news.
The Quicktime format has a metadata track that can have TC data. Now, while the Avid doesn't use this track - you can add the data manually to any QT clip if you export an ALE of the bin and have a list of the clips. you could zip through the QT's and insert the TC info for each clip.
This isn't automatic or particularly fast - but could get you QT with TC
I'm feeling a little stupid, but I cant seem to figure out how to add the TC into the .mov. Anyone willing to point me in the right direction?
Mark
Yeah, but we're looking to get QT files out into another environment with their captured TC, not just bring them back into an Avid like for online
I'm bummed because all these new lower priced media asset managers are going to basically leave us in the Avid world behind if this process doesn't become available. We are redigitizing tapes, for now, to use logging and trascription services on big shows but as the less expensive systems hit the market we will slip further and further behind. No one wants to digitize twice to manage their library.
Most folks who own 4 or 5 MC Softs are not buying interplay, lets be honest. ;)

Don't feel stupid. To add TC to a QT movie check out this link that discusses it:

I don't think learning Objective C is the right direction...
I didn't say it was easy - just that it is possible. :) (And if you decided to take the plunge and write a utility to insert TC data into clips from, say: an ALE file, you could suddenly have a lot of interested people.)
So it's not as simple as I thought. Thanks for pointing me to Sebsky tools, I'll give that a try.
Sebsky rocks! Thank you. We got the shots we needed out. Love this board.
No probs.
Hopefully there will be more metadata in quicktimes from Avid in the future.
