Mac Error -38 (File Not Open) The unity server is offline ...

    Hi All,

So here is our situation.  0S 9.2.2 / 2 Film Composers version 11.2.6 running a shared project on Unity 4.1.1.  The editor or myself will be working then we get an error message.  "Mac Error -38 (File Not Open) The unity server is offline or is not responding."  We have tried many different things.  When the error happens the workspaces unmount.  Sometimes it happens on his system.  Sometimes on my system.  Sometimes it happens to us at the same time.  Sometimes it happens a few times a day.  Sometimes it happens every couple days.

I have also gotten these other errors and they all do the same thing, the workspaces unmount.

    Exception: omfi hpdomain_error_closing_domain.

    Exception: disk_missing_vref

Could not access the file server because the i/o operation timed out.  Check that the server is up.

    Any ideas?

And are you Ethernet or Fiber based?  If your ethernet, there have been major issues with disconnects.  Check the storage forum, you will see many threads about it.

We are fiber based.  I have noticed that the time on the server does not match the time on the editing systems.  Also, the prefix of the server matches the prefix of the system names.  The tech is back tomorrow and I will bring these issues to his attention.  He said that "Avid said to not synchronize time with server."  Would these issues cause those errors?

    Hi,

Just got an error tyring to connect to the unity on the assistant system.  The editor system connected to the unity with no problems.  Got the error message "Could not access the file server because the i/o operation timed out.  Check that the server is up and that the network cables are properly connected."

This is leading me to think it's a problem with the fiber cards or bad cables.

Not syncro with server?  HUH?  News to me, i have 4 MCA fiber, and 6 MC Mojo ethernet connected to a LanShare EX 4.1.5 and all of mine are set to syncro.  I also made sure that Windows Time is disabled, meaning the clients will not look to the internet for their time.  It dosent matter with me, seeing there is no internet in my avid network, but i turned it off to make sure of no conflictions.  Weird, Avid told me to have syncronize on.
