Re: avid 5.8 Buffer overrun error

he means to delete the file "MCState" & allow it to rebuild.  MCState is a settings file that can become corrupted (for reasons known only to the computer gods).  deleting it (only when Avid is not running!) will cause Avid to rebuild it the next time you launch avid & enter a project.

i's been a while (thankfully), but i believe it can be found in  c:/program files/avid/avid express pro/settings

backup the file to your desktop & if rebuilding it has no effect on your problem, you can just restore your old settings (if they have changed at all).  the file "Site Settings" is another file that can become corrupted.  you can rebuild it in the same way, but your customized user settings (toolbar & window positions, etc) will be reset to the default.  i doubt the site settings have anything to do with a Buffer Overrun error... but it can't hurt to try before you proceed with a complete UNinstall/REinstall.

    good luck.

     Thanks for that shane!

But am still a bit unsure what to do now? Do you think its the Mcstate file that is causing the problem or should i do a unintal then reinstal 1st..what would be the most logical order of action?

Re: avid 5.8 Buffer overrun error

i would try rebuilding the setting files first, because they will be reset to defaults anyway if you uninstall/reinstall.
