Hi,
My Studio system has been giving a lot of trouble for a few years now. And it's finally starting to be too much. So in decideing to upgrade to a new system, new computer and all, I am finding that Xpress pro is phased out in favor of Media Composer. (That seems cool enough) But I can't find anything on studio. I've seen some talk of a "Studio Tool Kit" here in the forums, but I can't find anything on the Avid product pages. I've been out of the loop for a while What's up?
Your best bet at this stage is to go for Media Composer. Once you're working in it, you'll never regret your decision.
Be very careful to compare any computer purchase to the Media Composer system requirements.
Also, consider Media Composer Nitris DX.

Thanks Larry.
I've watched the Pentagon channel. You Guys do great work.
You're welcome, and thanks for the compliment. Our motto is "Serving Those Who Serve".
The Studio Toolkit is Avid DVD, Avid 3D, and Avid FX. You can read about it at www.videoguys.com.
If you still want a "studio" sort of package, you can either buy the latest version of Xpress Pro (they still sell it) or Media Composer. Then, you can buy the Studio Toolkit (only $400 at www.videoguys.com) and Digidesign ProTools. With all this software you would pretty much have your own "studio package." If you wanted increased compatibility between Avid and Protools, you could also buy the DV Toolkit with Digitranslator ($1300) or just the Digitranslator ($495) plugin for Protools. I have DV Toolkit, and it's incredible! If you can't afford the full DV Toolkit, Digitranslator will still give you the interop ability between the 2 apps, you just won't have some of the additional audio plugins that come with the DV Toolkit. You can export AAF sequences from Avid and open them right up in Protools, seeing all your original cuts and fades.
Hope this helps!

Apparently, you still have the Studio package (either Complete or Essentials). So you already have ProTools, Digitranslator, Avid FX, Avid DVD, Avid 3d, etc. The latest version of Studio is 5.7. There has not been a release of Studio or Studio Toolkit since this release.
I suggest that you upgrade to the latest release if you don't already have it...and then do the upgrade to Media Composer from Studio for $495.
If you have a version of Studio previous to 5.7, you can upgrade, afain. Btw...all of the components of Studio are still alive and well in various forms...i.e. Toolkit, ProTools, Digitranslator, etc., and are fully upgradeable.
Oh...and Studio was "End of Life'd" due to issues with developing drivers for the new ProTools interface, the 003. I personally am hoping that it is "redeployed" at some future date, although I have NO information to that effect...and I cannot speculate.
If you search this forum, you will find more than you ever wanted to know about the end of Studio Complete and Essentials...fwiw.
