If your a professional editor you'd have known better and not bought a non-avid certified system. The certified system information is readily available and you should have looked at that either before buying MC or your system...
Did you think of consulting Avid before buying the software or hardware?
.....didn't think so.
Why did you buy Media Composer for a un-certified system......because your a silly billy, that's why.
Yes but what about those who aren't professional editors?
one would assume that Avid, who has always supported Mac, would have its act together.
Unless you work for avid, why wouldnt you want them to keep up with technology?
It would help all of us!
WOW, you mean they are more mac friendly? Gee, you think because apple manufactures both there might be something there. Customer friendly? Have you ever dealt with Avid customer support? They are one of the better ones out there.
I’m not even going to get started with this, but I have to think that you’re probably a recent graduate of some school were you learned some really cool editing techniques on a FCP system and you’re jumping on the Avid Bashing wagon. “star wipe” My advise, go back to school, learn the tool that will get you a real / serious job in this industry, and then ask yourself why you bought MC. Or, you could be some wacko apple dealer!

If there's one thing I learned in this business decades ago, it's ASSUME NOTHING!

And, "Let's Go Final Cut", PLEASE>>>PLEASE>>>PLEASE!!
Do us all a huge favor and DO NOT start yet another Avid vs Final Cut debate here in this thread, as this subject has already been beaten to death so much that there's nothing left of the carcass anymore. Just search "Avid vs FCP" and you'll have more than enough bathroom reading material.
At NAB Avid announced that MC 3.0 (coming in June) will support Leopard (as well as Vista). So if you can hang in there a couple of months, you will be covered. If you purchased after March 17, you can get teh 3.0 upgrade free when it ships.
Lots of good new stuff in MC 3.0 including multi-threading, thin rastor support, much more real-time HD performance and when you are ready for it - the new DX hardware.

Well you're first mistake was getting a Mac... since they're hardware is always outdated and overpriced.... not to mention they don't even build their own hardware.

Getting back to the topic of this thread...if I asked myself that question the answer in my case would be:
It's the best, most powerful editing engine out there for features and performance in the price range of the average new car. Considering I intend to make my living doing this for many years, I see it as a worthwhile investment in my personal career development.
