    HELP with Stop Motion

I'm a new user to Avid Free DV and I'm trying to get it to do stop-motion. Unfortunately, I'm really bad at using it; I can't get much to work. I want to know how to:

    1. Put frames into the timeline and adjust to a constant framerate UNDER 1 second

    2. Be able to move frames around on the timeline.

    3. And any other things relevant to making stop-motion with Avid Free DV.

    Thanks!

    Re: HELP!!

OK I'm on Composer, not Free, but I'm assuming you mean "How do I create a freeze frame?"

Park the source monitor on the frame you want to freeze and check the clip pull down menu for "freeze frame". Pull down to it and define the length of the freeze frame clip that will be created. There are also frame options in case your freeze frame gets "the jitters".

Segment editing (the red and yellow arrow keys) allow you to move clips around on the timeline. The red one lifts and overwrites at the new position, the yellow one extracts and inserts clips in the timeline. CTL + drag snaps to an in point, CTRL + ALT + drag snaps to an out point. ALT dragging moves one frame at a time. To move clips vertically to a different track without any horizontal movement (vertical constraint) CTRL + SHIFT drag.

    Re: HELP!!

    Hi,

Take a look at the FreeDV tutorials, which will help get you going.  Tutorial 9 tells you how to move material around on the timeline, and Tutorial 12 tells you how to work with effects.  The Motion Effect is the one you want for changing the speed of clips.

    good luck,
    Carl
