I put in a message to Red Giant, but apparently they're still reveling at NAB.
So, I was wondering if anybody else had this problem and fixed it. Looks and Colorista comes with installers for After Effects, FCP, Premiere Pro and Motion. It works fine in all those apps, just not AXP.
It locks up AXP when I click the "Edit" button.
Can anybody help?
There's a good reason for that: it's not supported.
It's on their web page: http://www.redgiantsoftware.com/hostsupport.html
Although I am running AXP 5.8 on an usupported OS (10.5.2), I wasn't expecting miracles. I was just wondering if anybody else had gotten it to work. And if so, how.
It's not supposed to work with Avid (which is a possible reason why it doesn't).
But, it is supposed to work with Avid 5.7 (MacIntel). You can see that from the link you yourself posted, hbrock
Looks comes with an Avid installer. Looks shows up on my AXP effects pallette. It shows up in the Effects Window when applied to a clip. I can even use the Looks mask function on an unaffected clip, if I was goofy enough to want to that.
As I'm sure you know, just because something's not supported, doesn't mean it doesn't work. I've been running AXP 5.8 on Leopard just fine, and that's unsupported.
Besides, these web forums are the place to get unofficial support when the company doesn't support certain combinations, right?
Some brilliant list member was able to post a hack to banish the annoying menu bar animation on Leopard/AXP. That's the kind of thinking I'm hoping to discover here, if possible.
In the meantime, I have Automatic Duck, and will be able to take my Sequenes into AE to use Looks, but if I can save a step, that'd be nice.
Sorry. I saw Colorista on you post and didn't notice Looks. Colorista is not supported in any Avid application according to the Red Giant web page that I referred you to. Just to be clear, which application is crashing? Looks and/or Colorista? And did you ever reach anyone at Red Giant (they should have recovered from NAB by now)? In theory Looks works with OSX 10.5.2, but since the Avid acts a bit weird under Leopard you might have fallen off the bleeding edge.
My copy does exactly the same thing if i use my Leopard machine. It just doesn't like Leopard and Avid together.

No worries, h.
I did finally hear from Red Giant. They apologized for the delayed response due to NAB, and told me that they'll look into it. So, there may be some hope. We'll see.
Invoking Looks locks the AXP app. It doesn't crash to the "The application has crashed" screen, it just freezes and causes most of the GUI to turn white, which makes me to Force Quit and relaunch.
