    Clips and Layers

After placing a clip in a layer, is there a way to move that clip around in the layer.  For example:

Suppose you have a "look" for a show that is a fullscreen clip and you want to use a specific part of that clip for a lower third.

In my experience, if a fullscreen clip is placed in a layer, the bottom of the clip is cropped when the size of the layer is changed..... as in positioning this layer for a lower 3rd.  That's fine if you want whatever is in the upper portion of the fullscreen clip to be the lower 3rd.... but suppose you want what's in the lower portion of the fullscreen clip?  I haven't found a way to do that (yet).

    Any ideas?

    Thanks!

    Re: Clips and Layers

I'm having a tough time figuring out what you want, but in Avid, V1 would contain your background shot and V2 would have either a title clip created in Avid or an imported graphic say from Photoshop with an embedded alpha channel. On V2, you can promote either a title or a graphic to 3D which opens up all kinds of options for re-positioning and re-sizing the lower 3rd graphic anyway you want, and place it anywhere on the screen relative to the background you want.

"Is there a way to move that clip around in the layer?"

I assume you're referring to segment editing, the yellow and red arrow icons on your keyboard and timeline tool. Engaging the red one allows you to move segments around on the timeline leaving a hole in it's original location. The yellow one moves the segments, but inserts what you move between other segments, and not leaving a hole in the timeline at it's original location.

Am I tracking with you or not?
