As we all know, there are a number of issues that we see posted regularly. While this may not be a guarantee that people will read before they post, it might make it easier to create a FAQ that will remain at the top of the thread list.
This is where I need your help...what should all be in the FAQ?
All suggestions welcome, include links to the information if you have them.
Please respond here or PM me and we'll get this going ASAP.

Great idea Kevin.
Ra-ey Q: "How many Editors does it take to change a lightbulb?" A: "Why do you want to change it?"
Kevin,
would you include something like "tips and techniques" on the Xpess Pro forum ?

Q: What is the field order output in Avid MC
A: NTSC is always lower field first
PAL varies right?

Kevin - let's start with basic Media Management procedures, location of folders, naming protocol of folders, when and why to rebuild media databases and the like. In my operation here, this seems to be the area that many users are woefully deficient on.

Thanks to you!
I don't think that Kevin's intention was to treat such question here, The title of this thread is "Let's Build a FAQ!"
Thanks, sep. While I can appreciate a joke as much as another guy (and the DX question did make me laugh) I am going to delete any posts that are not directly applicable to the FAQ. There are plenty of other threads to try out your new material on... :)
So, please, keep throwing out suggestions and in a week or so we'll have something built that we can, of course, continue to add to as time goes on.
Thanks for the feedback, keep it coming!
applebuckets: Q: What is the field order output in Avid MC A: NTSC is always lower field first PAL varies right?
Yes PAL varies. speaking obviously about SD resolutions, all the "Meridien" resolutions are UPPER field first, all DV resolutions are LOWER field first. Consider as Meridien resolutions all the SD resolutions available in MC (included uncompressed 1:1), except DV (25, 50 100...)
There happen sometimes weird things, as mentionned in one of my recent posts. I had lately to encode DV 25 using Procoder 3, and had to sxitch to upper fileld first, using a QT ref coming from a pure DV25 sequence. Here I have NO EXPLANATION. Same bahavior with Sorenson 4.3.
Good idea Kevin I created a knowledgebase here of word docs etc which I've already made into pdfs it really helps. I broke everything down in to bite size chunks inserting pictures etc and put them all in a folder saying 'how to'. People rarely read them unless they need them but I had positive feedback from the guys so it does work.

How about HDV workflow techniques. That's been confusing to me.

How about outlining the workflows from Digital Film Cameras (Dalsa, SI, Panavision, RED, Phantom, ect.).

Hi Kevin,
Now that Xpress Pro is dead, all the posts with "Failed to Initialize Audio" and "WIN_MIXER_SET_DETAILS" error messages will start appearing on the MC forum, if they haven't already. They used to show up on the FreeDV and Xpress Pro forums about 3 times a week.
In every case the problem is Realtek or Sigmatel HD onboard audio. 96% of the time the answer is to get a Soundblaster Audigy 2 sound card. 1% of the time, the answer is downloading different Realtek drivers, 1% of the time the answer is changing the Windows audio settings, 1% of the time the problem is that a USB webcam or printer is plugged in, and in the final 1% of cases, nothing works.
I'd suggest putting this in the MC FAQ.

Why not start a wiki?
www.collidingparticles.com
Given the scope of the suggestions already, I agree. A wiki seems like a good approach. And you could have a sticky containing a page of links to it at the head of this forum.
My first suggestion for content? "How often do I defrag my media drives?" Answer: NEVER!
There'd be at least a good half page of content on why not, and how you do maintain media drives.
Or some "its the same but different" suggestions. Coming from XPro this week I have spent the last 24hours re-learning where features are as some have moved. Batch capture for instance - its still there (of course) but not in the bin drop down but in the clip drop down? Not near the top - half way down. Sounds silly but I would have looked without seeing for 10 minutes before finding it!
That's not a dropout... it's an effect!
