On a MC 2.8 system I'm using, I've been logging a bin of 30-40 clips off a beta tape, then batch digitizing them. Usually 1 or 2 times per batch session I get a halt with the error TC_UNEXPECTED_MOB. If I re-digitize the clip, I get the same error. If I abort and look at the clip, the media is there on the disk and the clip seems to be fine, but it's "end" time code column in the bin is blank. Most annoying about this error is that it stops my batch session, so I have to babysit the digitizing in case the error pops up. Anyone have any ideas?
the error message sounds like the Streaming TC from your source is being interrupted somehow corrupting the Media Object. What are you using for 422 into your Avid software?
Do you really want to know what's wrong...or do you just want me to fix it?

It has an addenda electronics rosetta stone serial adapter. But if it were that, why would the problem happen repeatedly when trying to digitize the same clip? I would think it would more likely clear up on a retry. Also if it were a timecode interruption issue I'd expect to get the "discontinuity in timecode" error. It seems to me that the clip information itself is getting corrupted somehow.
Agreed. That can happen in a few different ways though so I needed to check your adapter.
So, if you enter the in and out points and re-log, does the new clip capture OK?
yes, if I re-log the clip it captures fine.
Well, then I think we can assume that something is corrupting the clip....question now is ....what?

I'd put my money on rock and roll music or violent video games.

Another oddity with this problem:
If I look at one of the affected clips, the last two frames are black and are missing time code (the TC field goes blank for two frames, not even zeros). Aside from these two frames the rest of the timecode on the V1 track is fine, but if I view timecode on the synchronous audio track the A1/A2 timecode is nonsensical, always beginning with zero hour and zero minutes, and then some random seconds/frames, i.e. 00:00:46:12.
I think I've fixed this problem by making new user settings. I had made the old ones under 2.72 and was using them on a 2.8 system. So far with newly made settings the problem has not reappeared.

From the ReadMe file that accompanies the Avid software: Do not carry User Profiles from a previous version to this version. Create new user settings. If you do use previous settings, the size of tools and windows might not be as expected, especially tools and windows that have been updated for this version.

"Saving the world, one Avid at a time"
I know Avid recommends this but I think its to save them tech support hassle, not to save me hassle. In over 10 years of working on Avid only one other time have I ever had a problem using the same user settings after a (non major) version upgrade. Making new user files takes forever and even with my settings written down I never get it quite the same way that I liked it. For me to make a new set for every incremental release would be a huge time suck. The problem I had is just as likely from something getting corrupted as it was a setting incompatibility.
I'll have to disagree here. In over 14 years of providing Avid support, I can't even count the number of times "old" use settings caused problems.
Yep user settings and site settings etc should all go - but I can't tell you how many times I've forgotten to do it and it's caught me up Must be the drugs or the coffee...
