Anyone paying attention to detail on the upgrade paths from Mojo and Mojo SDI?

    AndrewAction:

MCA any version to MC3  $495  and NO warning about third party software updates not being included. But NOT saying they are included either.

The $495 boxed MC 3.0 upgrade from X Pro will turn any MC into the full MC 3.0 with all 3rd party software. You update your dongle and install the software.

Dealers have started receiving their first shipments today.

We are working with Avid on some kind of hardware trade-in program fro MojoSDI owners. It will be a discount off the MojoDX hardware based on returning your MojoSDI  your  reseller. If it gets worked out Marianna or I will let you know.

Note: The MojoDX hardware upgrade does not include the MC Soft 3.0 upgrade. So owners of Xpress pro or older versions on MC will have to buy the upgrade in order to make the MojoDX hardware work.

    Gary I would doubt that.

The Avid store has 3 options for the MC to MC3 upgrade. Two of them specifically say they wont work for MCA. With that in mind I would doubt that a Pro to MC 3 update would work on a MCA Dongle.  Happy to be proved wrong.

However the MCA to MC3 upgrade is the same price as the boxed Pro to MC3 so it makes it a rather academic excercise.

And for those of us in the dark ages of Mojo or Meridian?

    Re: Media Composer V3.0

There is no hardware "upgrade" per-se.  The basic strategy seems to be that if you owned a previous DNA piece you must have had the software, so after you get the MC.3.0 upgrade you only need the DX hardware.  So the hardware "upgrade" is the MC + DX hardware pricing minus the $2495 that a new user would pay for the MC software alone.

So, if you were "updating" a previous XproHD/MC + Mojo  to MC 3 + MojoDX it would cost $495 for software plus $7495 for Mojo DX (exclusive of the cost of the new HP xw8600 dual quad-core 4 GB RAM, NVidia Quardo FX3700 workstation required to support DX hardware.)

If you were upgrading to NitrisDX hardware the cost would be $495 for the software, plus $12,495 for the Nitris DX (again, exclusive of the cost of the new HP xw8600 dual quad-core 4 GB RAM, NVidia Quardo FX3700 workstation required to support DX hardware.)

So basically, for either package you save the difference in the software update vs new software price ($2,000) for either MojoDX or NitrisDX hardware.  IOW, there is really is no "hardware" upgrade pricing, and that is pretty much standard practice in any industry - new hardware is full price.

I do not believe you are right.

There was a preliminary pricing showing you could get a further $3000 off the Nitris DX price upgrading from Adrenaline (required returning Adrenaline)  IE Upgrade price MCA to MC Niris DX $9,995

There was a similar (cannot remember the figures)idea floated for Mojo without the requirement to return the Mojo

Yeah filed and sorted aswell ...

    I love his first post...

First of all, make sure you have QuickTime pro and it's registered. If not, this might cause low res when creating DVDs and other exports. If it's a non HDV project, you can export as Quicktime Reference which is quick and take it to any DVD making app. I've had nice results with Sonic, but most other DVD authoring apps will also read QuickTime reference files, including Nero (which is popular).

Fo HDV projects, export as either HDV MPEG or QT H264. Then use any up-to-date DVD authoring package. TMPGEnc will give you most options and can also batch encode.

P.S. Do not despair. I am quite certain Avid at some point will merge Xpress Pro with Liquid. Then we will see some nice action.

I'm only going by what is in print over an Avid signature.  Until Avid publishes different numbers in a public announcement, it is only wishful thinking.

"Avid MC Nitris DX model upgrade from MC Adrenaline (PN 7510-20043-01) - Upgrade MC Adrenaline to MC Nitris DX is $9,995 US MSRP (Requires return of MC Adrenaline Breakout Box)"" Cut and pasted from an Avid email that said that this price had not been verified yet and I have not seen any subsequent verification.

Suprisingly there is nothing wishfull about being offered $3k off for sending back a $35K MCA with HD board that is still earning that money in a few days onlining. Whats more it is likely to achieve that regularly for the next few years.

The Nitris DX box is $12,500 if purchased outright.  Seems like a better deal to keep the Adrenaline or E-Bay it instead.

    Media Composer 3.0 w/Mojo (analog), HP xw8400, 1xQC 3.0GHz, 4GB RAM, FX 3700, 500GB Boot, 1 x 1TB & 1 x 500GB internal SATA media drives, 3-Ware 9690SA... [view my complete system specs]

    Re: Media Composer V3.0

I definitely agree with Randall. For the pitiful trade-in allowance on DNA, it makes more economic sense to keep it and purchase the Nitris DX hardware as add on, especially if you already have an MC Soft platform in addition to the full blown Adrenaline DNA platform.
