Hi I'm guessing yes it must be! but could somebody double check and ask at NAB? The way post is moving (with Red, SI-2k, Arri D21, HDCAM SR 444 etc) it would be madness to cripple the Nitris DX with one HDSDI spigot and 422 internally. hopefully Michael Lindsay
Hi
I'm guessing yes it must be! but could somebody double check and ask at NAB?
The way post is moving (with Red, SI-2k, Arri D21, HDCAM SR 444 etc) it would be madness to cripple the Nitris DX with one HDSDI spigot and 422 internally.
hopefully

I have to check but I want to say it's 4:2:2.
Do you really want to know what's wrong...or do you just want me to fix it?
FCP2Avid
Thanks...
Do please ask as that would be crazy with the way post (not broadcast) is going.
This would take it from a definate to maybe?? purchase for us.
regards
Michael
4:2:2. Sorry. :-(
Avid DS Nitris is already 444 capable with an extra 444 card purchase. AND in my opinion, DS is Avid's best NLE!

Confirming Terence's post. Just traded emails with the DX product manager. MC and Symphony running on Nitris DX hardware support 4:2:2 color space only.

Nitris DX is incapable of 4.4.4 fullstop or only incapable with MC and Symphony (or MC and Symphony at the moment)?
thanks for your effort..

That we don't know. DS announcements haven't been made yet.
That's very interesting Terence.
Most likely DS will keep using the "Optional 10-bit SMPTE 292M dual-link SDI for high-definition 4:4:4 I/O".
Why is that likely?
What's confusing at first is that the Nitris DX breakout has HDSDI A and HDSDI B inputs. Unfortunately, not for dual link 4:4:4, but for future Stereoscopic work. As Quantel said at the Digital Cinema summit at NAB, and I paraphrase, "We're very excited that Avid is making a Stereo offline editing system".
Perhaps the exisiting DS line with 4:4:4 capability will be enhanced with Stereoscopic. But that's a whole different topic completely.
Job ter Burg: Why is that likely?
If Nitris DX was capable of 4:4:4 Avid would have sold it as an option for Symphony. They don't.
The 4:4:4 option for DS has been in place for years and works. Why give up a good thing when there is no alternative?
But this is all speculations, of course, or educated guess in absence of official info.
Andrei Zhitkov:If Nitris DX was capable of 4:4:4 Avid would have sold it as an option for Symphony.
Time will tell.
Of course. But then Avid would really have no excuse to jump over v.2.
Yes, we'll know very soon.
