Hi
I wonder if anyone could help? I'm having a few problems digi cutting in 16:9 back onto tape via i-link with Media Composer and a Sony Z1. When I capture the material shot on the Z1, the Avid takes it in as a full 16:9 picture but squeezes it to a 4:3 shape. This disappears once I enable 16:9 monitors and can edit and play as normal. But when I try to digi cut it back to tape it, the Z1 records it as a 16:9 picture squeezed into a 4:3 shape with black bars either side.
I guess it's a issue with either my capture or digital cut settings - or the output/record setting on the camera. Does anyone have any idea how to resolve it?? Would be much appreciated.
Cheers
What is happening is that Avid is striping the the 16:9 'flag' in the media stream (if there is one). It is not quite a big deal since many decks and/or monitors have 16:9 mode.
Is this native DV or HDV downconvert to DV?

Hi Dom
Thanks for replying. It's native DV. Do I need to adjust the output settings in my deck? If not, how do I turn the striping off in the AVID?
James
how do I turn the striping off in the AVID?
What you are seeing is your camcorder's monitor not getting a 16x9 flag, and therefore displaying the incoming signal as 4x3.
The 16x9 flags are not an official part of any professional standard, but they are commonly used in consumer equipment. Some DVD recorders and authoring software can add it.
I think I've found the answer to the problem - for some reason I had my capture/import settings to MXF 411 instead of 420. Now that I've reset it to 420 it seems to digi cut fine.
However, it still wants to digi cut to 4:3 when I add a fluid film progressive effect to 16:9 material....I'm not sure if there is a render effects setting which is still set to 411.
Thanks for everyone for their help.
