Hi, friends. With no new changes to my system or settings in either Avid or Photoshop that I remember, I am suddenly unable to import full screen layered PSD files - Something I've done countless times before. Each image in Avid shows up with a black box on a white background with the message (in 4 languages), "This layered Photoshop file was not saved with a composite image." I can save the files as PNG files (and probably other formats) and they import fine, but I'd rather not go through that process. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?
Many thanks.
Were the Photoshop files prepared in the same way/by the same person as has always been done at your facility or are these files different somehow?
Do you really want to know what's wrong...or do you just want me to fix it?

I'm a one man shop, and do it all myself. And, I made these graphics the same as I always have. Something's certainly different, but I don't know what. My searches here and elsewhere have been futile.
And it was a pain to convert everything the PNG file. First, unless they are flattened, they import as alpha files, even if they are full screen. I don't remember this happening before either. Thank goodness for "actions" in Photoshop allowing me to flatten and save each of the many files quickly with a simple single click of the mouse.
Any help from anybody?
Do you have a vector shape mask layer?
Have you left it as a CMYK image rather than RGB?
Firstly, as Andrew suggests, I would check whether you have vector layers (text, shapes or similar) that are not rasterised, and that you are truly in 8-bit RGB. If not you will need to re-export your PSD file with the correct settings.

Even if a graphic has an alpha channel you can change the import settings on Avid to ignore it. It will then come in as a flattened graphic.
Andrew, a full screen background (the only layer) doesn't even import correctly. However, several include text that isn't rasterized. That's never been a problem before, either. Similar graphics with unrasterized text and shapes have always imported perfectly until yesterday. And, no, everything is RGB/8.
Jwrl, yeah I could change the defaults in AXP, but I'd rather simply solve this problem and work like I used to.
Thanks for the thoughts and suggestions. Anyone else?
joelrmorgan:This layered Photoshop file was not saved with a composite image.
I think that was referring to PSD files from 4.0 (or abouts there) and CS. I am using CS with full compatibility, and have been for some time. Hence, that's certainly not the problem. But nice suggestion. Keep it up!
