I'm not over-reacting.... I just despise unnecessary corporate censorship. But it's all now a moot point. In case anyone is interested, my "evil" post has been reposted by Marianna herself. You can read it here: http://community.avid.com/forums/t/57179.aspx
She deserves credit, because it took some courage on her part to do so. It is on a new thread with the same name as this one... So in this case I guess that now means both Marianna and I will be banned from posting.

Try saying ANYTHING bad about Apple on their FCP forum and they will nuke you in a heartbeat, this forum is a LOT freer.

BLKDOG:Seriously Andrew?
Personally I do not care when we get told just dont rub my face in the fact that a band of LA users get given full disclosure 4 days earlier with the suggestion that they dont share that information.
NOT VERY SMART marketing IMO.
You're absolutely right, Fazz. And that's just the point.... I would expect that kind of Orwellian behavior from Apple... but not Avid.
I can understand Avid's point of view in not talking about specifics until an offical release. But in today's world of instant access to information with the web and all it's kind of ridiculous to have a high profile public event in LA and not expect information to be out there as soon as people leave it. They should have just put out the press release first thing today. The idea of leaking things and then telling the rest of the world you have to wait 5 days for an offical realease does seem kind of like "backwards thinking"
An idea to add to the list of New Thinking:
Getting filmmakers and editors excited and interested in sharing information about your product is really valuable! Encourage discussions on these Avid forums as much as possible, rather than discouraging them and sending them elsewhere. (Wasn't that "old thinking"? You know, the old, oh we don't want you in our club so go play with FCP.) Controling a forum, which is owned and run by the company, is probably smart. But controling it to the point that you actually WANT people to leave your page and discuss your product's issues elsewhere is folly.
I look forward to revived forum activity right here with Avid, to go along with the forum's "new look" and Avid's "New Thinking."
Cheers.
Joseph - Ouch! I just bought an Adrenaline for $40K... dag this hurts. I always said if this happens I'd go to NAB, pour gas on myself and light myself of fire in protest.
Seriously, it look like this MCA DX product is a logical progression for low-cost HD I/O for MCA to compete against FCP/AJA. Us Adenaline owners just need to lick our wounds.

You bought something major between January and NAB - that is a big no-no!

Hey All,
For what it's worth, I was at the Avid event last night at Univeral Studios and I don't remember a single mention of keeping pricing quiet. I was told by several Avid folks that the pricing mentioned at the event was preliminary and subject to change -- so perhaps they just want time to put their collective heads together and finalize things before word hits the street much?
Anyway, the new stuff certainly looked impressive. The Mojo DX does not have analog inputs, as far as I could tell, despite assertions to the contrary here. It had SDI and HD-SDI (same jacks, software switchable). It had a serial port for deck control. It had HDMI for monitoring. And it had analog audio outs for monitoring. That's it.
The bigger box (Nitris DX?) had the full compliment of I/O. Very similary to the Adrenaline.
The new realtime TC plugin is freakin' awesome! It finally has the ability to generate source clip as well as record timecodes for display. You can also have it output other useful information, such as clip names and, I believe, keynumbers. All in realtime. Very cool.
I also enjoyed speaking with a number of key engineers. They asked me what we needed to be more competive with FCP, and I told them one of their biggest advantages is a true shared project workflow. I mentioned that a sub 5 client shared solution at a reasonable price point would be a huge deal for smaller budgeted indies. I often work on studio DVD premiere titles where it's one editor and one assistant for run of show. I mentioned that if they could come up with a software only, 2 client ethernet based system, that would serve from one of the clients (ie, no additional hardware, and therefore cheap), it would be a HUGE advantage over FCP. They scratched their heads and thought and smiled about it, so... We'll see.
Anyway, as mentioned here by somebody else, what I saw was more evolutionary than revolutionary. But what was refreshing was the openness of the Avid folks to talk candidly about what they were doing and what they saw as their strengths and weaknesses.
Oh, and one other thing, they did mention that there would be hardware upgrade options. No pricing was mentioned, so I won't speculate.

I have a question:
I still need analog I/O, the Mojo DX doesn't have any and I don't want to spend the $$ of the
DX nitris box.
I own a magnificent big Sony Professional monitor i use to color correct, which is far better than any comparable HDMI LCD, but, of course, it doesn't have HDMI.
But I want some HD capabilities.
What do I do?
"Art can't exist without Craft"
The best way to handle I/O analog to SDI/HD-I with Mojo DX, and FCP/Kona3, is the AJA FS-1. The FS-1 is the I/O holy grail. For $3500 this box is amazing. Put it on a patch panel and it can feed all kinds of decks/monitors and it will solve all of life's problems.
Adrenaline? LOL
:)

Does it have DVI? The video signal in HDMI is just DVI-D, it's purely a plug problem. You can get an adaptor for about $20.
For $3500 this box is amazing.
. - Thanks buddy but That would make the DX the most expensive Mojo ever.
Adrenaline?
.- I'll wait till the price drops to $ 1.500 to make it comparable to a Mojo. Maybe in 2010.
Again, we the small guys are a little bit screwed.
If we want Analog I/O or analog component monitoring, we have to buy the expensive box.
I hate FCP and you all know it, I hate it, oh God, I hate it!!
but a $349 Decklink Intensity card can satisfy most of my humble needs.
Maybe I'll have to wait to the "Newer new thinking"
Avid: OOOPS, you did it again
