    Is Mojo any good?

OK. I may be stirring up a hornets nest here but...I am recomending to my boss that we scrap our old Meridien Xpress system and buy MC w/mojo SDI. Another editor here is dead set against it saying that the mojo is unreliable. He thinks it causes Avid to crash and has problems playing out to the client monitor. I think he is wrong. It's always worked for me and having MC 2.8 (multicam, spectramatte, bcc etc.) outweighs any minor technical problems we may encounter.

    Opinions?

    Re: Is Mojo any good?

I have not had any real problems with Mojo, analog or SDI. But I mainly use it as a monitoring device.  I think I would wait a bit on any decision and see what Avid has up its collective sleeves.  I bet that Meridien Xpress is still rock-solid and can last a bit longer so you can see what is coming along.

NAB is fast approaching, I'd wait until the dust settles and see what's announced before jumping into any equipment purchases.

Excellent advice gents. I know Adrenaline is now 15k w/dnx. Hopefully something nice at the Mojo level.

I used a Meridien Xpress for years and it was a rock solid performer...great offline tool and some basic 1:1 work.

    Re: Is Mojo any good?

    Hi,

About half (maybe a little more than half) of the work I've done over the last 3 years has been on Symphony Meridien systems.  Lots of broadcasters who haven't gone fully HD still do a lot of work on them, and if you add BCC (and maybe Sapphire) plug ins, they're awesome machines.

    adios,

    Re: Is Mojo any good?

Oh Don't get me wrong, I love the meridien film/media composers and symphonys. Used them for years and yes, rock solid and dependable (more stable than the current mc systems imho)

But the meridien xpress... sorry but just the sight of the name brought back memories...

Our Xpress Meridiens are great! They are far more stable than our brand new MCA!! They just lack the tools that we need.

    Re: Is Mojo any good?

Wouldn't you know it. I go and get myself a Mojo for my home system, and I'm not even going to be doing any jobs with it in the forseeable future. For my next gig I'll be working out of a post house. I'm sure after NAB there will be some hot new external box (or even software upgrade) that will trump my Mojo, which I only got so I could check video on my external monitor.

Oh well it's only money (albeit, a lot of money).

I read Avid wasn't showing at NAB this year.

Mac OS X.4.10... Ah, heck, I'm stuck on my client's FCP system right now so there's no point in getting this spec sheet or my system up to... [view my complete system specs]
