If I were to connect one tape deck to both a Media Composer Adrenaline and a DS Nitris, could I some how link the Nitris to the Adrenaline so I could trigger the Adrenaline to start capturing when I start capture on the Nitris?
Formerly known as HDRebel88
Not that I know of, but you could capture full-res (assuming SD) into the Adrenaline, copy the media to the Nitris, and then AFE over the Bin. That gets you a capture once, use in two places workflow.
Alternatively you can capture into the Adrenaline, set it to VTR Emulation Mode, and then capture into DS as if you were capturing off of any deck. Same deal only it's real time.
DS does not have a VTR Emulation mode so if you need it as uncompressed HD on the DS and as compressed (DNxHD) on the MC you'll need to capture twice.
HTH.

Yep, that's exactly what I need.... Uncompressed on Nitris and DNxHD on MC. So I'm going to have to stick with capture on-the-fly with MC and and using the Nitris for Deck Control. And timecoding and genlocking everything together.... I was just hoping there was an easier way.
By the way, I would get timecode if I use capture on the fly correct?
We're actually recording straight into the Avid systems on set from the Dalsa Origin.
Origin --> Codex Digital --> Panasonic D5HD Deck (2k/HD Master Footage Back-Up/Off-line for 4k Back-Up) ---> Avid Systems .... All of which will be done in realtime on-set.
I was hoping to cut down on the amount of record buttons we have to press before we can call action. But in the end, manual recording will work, seeing as how everything will have the same timecode.... just some systems will jump in a few frames later.
MCA can take an LTC input - which is what you want for capture on the fly. You can actually enter an 'in-point' and it will go into record when it sees that time on the incoming LTC. If DS can do the same then you could get them to both start at the same time through this route.
Sounds to me like you need some kind of GPI to trigger record start/stop on both systems. Or a more elegant IP-based solution.
Re-reading your post what you need is a tally out of the DS that would trigger the MCA to start/stop record. Not sure if the DS has tallies, or if the MCA has GPI inputs.
Or what about Root6's content agent, maybe that can digitise to Uncompressed for DS and then batch convert the resulting files to DNxHD?

Would anybody know if this is possible with the Nitris?
Or if I could some how wire up a GPI system for the Codex Digital, Nitris, Tape Deck, and Adrenaline so all start at the same time?
Would something like this work?
