Hi all. When adjusting P & Z parameters in 2.8, the image is blocky and blurred. Only when I render the effect does the image become sharp. I've used the plugin successfully for a long time, and haven't suddenly changed my workflow (I use gaussian as my filter type). Anybody else having problems?

Yup. . . We had the same thing happen here. It confused us for a bit until we figured out that everything was OK after a render. Previously built P & Z effects that played fine in real time in earlier versions looked horrible in 2.8 until rendered.
The folks at Avid have been made aware of it, so hopefully it will go back to normal in a release or two. In the meantime, fortunately, P&Z renders aren't too time consuming.

Here's what happened.
This is kinda my fault (and a few others). Avid was looking for a way to speed up the performance of the P&Z plug. They put forward this idea that the display would remain in preview mode until you hit render.
When they asked us about this, I misunderstood what they meant and said "Sure, doesn't bother me". When the x.7.5 releases cam out and I saw the result, it freaked me out at first and I went back to SQA and said "Wait! that's not what I thought you meant!".
It bothered me at first but, now that I work with it a lot, I've gotten used to it. I do prefer the faster refresh times when composing the effect. I used to have to toggle between real time and Avid ultra just to speed things up. I kind of like not having to do that anymore.
So I could go either way but I do appreciate what Avid was trying to do and it does work faster for me now.

Understood. It's a massive pain when you're tracking across maps though - the kind of detail you need to see when programming a move just isn't there - until you render. Inevitably, your moves tend to become a bit hit or miss and that mounts up to a lot of wasted time if you're doing a history series that's dependent on that kind of content. Any chance of reverting to previous?
P.S. Does 2.7.5 use P & Z the old way? I'll roll back if it does...
thanks in advance.
2.7.5 is where this was introduced.
Thanks for all the info. My vote for a return to previous functionality - please!
Here's a workaround if you don't like the way pan & zoom works in 2.8. Replace the p&z avx plug in 2.8 with the one in 2.7 and you're back in business.

The new way works much better for me 90% of the time. The other 10% of the time I REALLY want the old way back. (Guess I could keep both versions on the desktop and change back and forth between them)
Thanks for the continued dongle support

sep:Why not, excellent feature request
Is indeed "Pan & Zoom" a "visible" or "recognizable " AVX plug in in the Avid AVX folder? I am not in front of my MCA right now.
Would it be possible to rename the older version and have both accessible in the FX palette?
Or did I misunderstand you Andrew ?

I am just suggesting that this MAYBE a very easy solution for them for our diverse requirement for the plug in
I naively made the test, I have a backup from the previous MCA configuration ie the older P&Z version. I renamed the older one to P&Z old, and placed it in the AVX plug ins folder, but to no avail, only 1 P&Z shows up in the FX palette. I honestly am not surprised.

BLKDOG, It's great you have an "In" with Avid, how about also getting them to include Rotation into the effect.
