hello,
we are using avid xpress pro as for an editing system, and we are using the Matrox X.mio graphic card to broadcast.
but we are facing a problem, we need to convert the exported DVCPRO 25 files from Avid with another converter called MainConcept, to be able to play it on these type pf cards, which is not suitable for our work, we are losing precious time.
does Avid have a plugin that allowe to export directly with the right format to suite the Matrox X.mio card?
your help is in need,
thank you,
issam
The X.mio series of cards are Matrox designer products, and are typically sold with an SDK for engineers to implement their own systems. Without knowing what software is being used to drive your card or how the designer has implemented your system it's hard to help. If you tell us what MainConcept is converting your media to we may be able to assist you.
first of all let me thank you for your quick answer,
we have bought the converter online, here is the web site:
http://www.mainconcept.com/site/mainconcept-21678.html?L=0
is there are any specific details in the development of the application, that is controlling the card that you need to know? i can ask our developer about it...

I'm familiar enough with the MainConcept converters to know that they can convert just about anything to anything. Without knowing anything about the format you're converting to (file type and codec, etc) no-one can help you. We need that information to know how you need to set Avid up if it's at all possible.
we are exporting the file using these settings:
-Export as : avi
*video options:
**Codec options:
***compressor: dv25 - Mainconcept Pro DV codec
**Color Levels: 601/709
*Audio options:
**Stereo
**Sample rate: project
**Sample bit depth: 16bit.
P.S: we have installed the MainConcept also on each editing post. and still we need to convert the files using mainconcept...
Avid can meet all of those requirements except the avi file format. Avid only supports AVI1.0 which limits your maximum file size to 2 GB, or roughly 8 minutes of screen time.
If you export from Avid using QT reference format the export from Avid will be fast. Then just import that into MainConcept. That will be as fast as it's possible to get with that setup.
we are using this procedure only for our News Bulletin, so every file would be maximum 5min, but I am concern and worried if the custom made software crashes every time we use it, because we will be having a bottle neck situation.
So you are telling me that it’s not possible to integrate this codec and settings inside Avid Xpress?
If your stories are all short you should be able to export directly from Avid as AVI. Because you have MainConcept installed on each of your systems the MainConcept DV codec may be available inside the AVI settings on Avid. If not it shouldn't really matter much anyway. You should be able to use pretty much any DV25 codec.
However I'm concerned that you mention your custom software crashing every time you use it. This is the first time that you've mentioned that. It appears to indicate that you have other problems anyway.
our custom made software is not crashing, it's only adding time to the export. i am making a comparison between Avid and Edius, while using Edius we can directly export under the same settings AVI DVCPRO25 without going through the Main Concept and we can play directly the file. but our user know Avid very well, so it's hard for them to make the shift.
that is why i was looking if Avid can solve this issue for us by adding the right format to be Exported directly without the need to go through another converter. that might or eventually crash under pressure...
so is there any possiblity to change the AVI format in Avid? or to add a plugin to solve this problem?

Yes. You can modify your export settings easily. Full details are in the Avid manual.
