Well I got 2.8 installed on a 10.5.2 Mac Pro 8 core but

when I get the program up, the menu at the top disappears.  I searched for someone else getting this phenomenon but I could not find a post that correlates.  Anyone of you pioneers run into the disappearing menu at the top and find a work around?

I have that disappearing menu as well but I don't find it to be a problem. I actually likke it because the screen is less busy. YOu can always move your mouse to the top and it disappears.

That is normal. It happened on all of my systems too.

Thanks.  For the record (for those who are also going to try this) I had to install/unistall/install to get it to work for me....and of course download the pace drivers.  I did run into the audio driver problem like you (BLKDOG) said some would but moving the drivers as instructed solved it.  I am going to try some small cuts this weekend and see how it does.  I will be glad when it is supported because I really like the new Mac Pro.  Very quiet and very easy install drives/ram/cards and start running.  Apple and Avid have both come a long way in design of hardware and software.

Do you have a Mojo or Adernaline working as well?  I installed 2.8 on a 10.5.2 8-Core Harpertown system and tried to get the mojo to work and it would only play if the audio was turned off (got a flamethrower error).  I then tried plugging it into my MC Adrenaline HD box and it wouldn't play at all.  It kept throwing up DIO errors etc.  This is a nightmare because our IT guy just bought 4 new 8 core Macs to replace our aging PC fleet.  It will suck if we have to shelve them for 6 months.

I did have it working on my Adrenaline but I wouldn't base my business on it.

The leopard release will not be 6 months from now so don't panic. If you need to replace systems, I definitely would back-rev those CPUs to Tiger.

    Hack it!

Go to AvidMediaComposer.app in the Application folder

    Right Click "Show package contents"

    THEN EITHER:

Open the info.plist in Property List Editor (if you have developer tools installed)

    change LSFullScreen to "No"

    OR

    Open info.plist in TextEdit

    change the entry after

    <key>LSFullScreen</key> to

    <false/>

Re: Well I got 2.8 installed on a 10.5.2 Mac Pro 8 core but

I'd love to back rev those CPU's to Tiger but I believe it is impossible.  I've spent 3 days that I should have been editing working with the IT guy to get it to work.  Just in case anyone is wondering, if you've bought a new Mac Pro with the top of the line 8800 card you are not going to be back rev'ing it to Tiger.  Tiger never had and most likely never will have drivers for the 8800 so all  you will get on boot up is a grey screen of death.  I have tried every one of the methods listed here and elsewhere.  We have a quad core Tiger machine in house with install discs and tried using it's hard drive in the new 8-core, installing using target mode, using an image, etc etc.  These machines are the newest 8-core's out ordered only a few weeks back.  It appears that we are screwed until Leopard support is released.  And as for Avid's "support" of Avid Xpress Pro until 2013.....What kind of support is that.  Support as long as you can get your hands on a used system.  As far as we are concerned Xpress Pro support ended the day they announced no future OS support.

As for our 2 adrenaline systems, I was going to try one last effort getting it to run on Leopard, but after BLKDOG's comment about not staking his business on it, I may rethink that.

It appears one of our graphic guys is getting a computer upgrade to an 8-core harpertown to replace his aging G5 that is apparently going to become our new "state of the art" Mac based HD adrenaline.  It's the only other Tiger capable machine in the building besides the Quad Core.

I'm not too happy about this to be honest.

Sorry, does your hack solve the Mojo/Adrenaline not working or the problem with the menu bar disappearing?

I was able to clone a Tiger drive from an intel machine that worked with my 8 core.  Albeit, I do not have the 8800 graphic card, this may be another avenue for you to follow.

The only cards that the Tiger install works with is the ATI 2600 card, which there is a Tioger driver for out there.  The other two cards now available on Harpertown Macs do not have Tiger drivers available.

That's what I was afraid of.

Well, if any of you do have the 2600 card and cannot get your new 8 core to start up from the Tiger install disk ( like I could not ), cloning from an existing Intel Tiger machine worked for me.

The not so funny thing is I came really close to buying the 8800 card myself.

This really an Apple issue, and if you check out their boards, you'll see a lot of griping about it.  They have changed their policy (for now) that only allows the models of graphics cards that were avilable at the time of purchase to be able to be used.

If you shelled out for an early Mac Pro and went went with the top of the line card, you will be saddened that there is no driver available for a newer Mac pro running Leopard.  So, you can take garphics cards from one model to another anymore.

Another reason the the "bong" sound effect when you turn on your Mac should be changed to "cha-ching".
