    AVID DS Project issues? On one system only...

    We have 3 Avid DS systems on an Avid Unity. All 3 are on a workgroup and sharing media indexing which happens on one of the systems. I have an independent machine which is running Project indexing. After a lot of playing around, I now have 2 of the 3 systems up and running. The 3rd system, which is the one that acts as media indexer is giving me a lot of problems. You can load the avid software, it sees the Projects for all 3 systems, but after loading MOST projects, you get: 1. Sicore Errors - No actual reason why, just crashes out 2. Saved Before Crash Errors I have restarted the system MANY times, but same result. UMMDS service is still running around 10-40 percent (randomly), but mostly sitting around 0-5% now. Any help is greatly appreciated!

    Hello,

    Your problem might be easy to resolve or complex, depending what the SICORE error exactly is.  Does it refer to a specific executable?  Like Consumermgrs.exe (Avid Project Indexer) or else?

    I could help but your best bet is to contact Avid Support Services (800-800-2843) and get direct phone help.

    Okay, here's the error I get and in this order: 1. I open up a project 2. Loads fine 3. I start moving around in the project and then all of a sudden I get "Saved before crash" 4. A few moments later I get, "Softimage SICORE Engine has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. 5. So, I click on "Click Here" for more info about the error and get: Error Signature AppName: ds.exe AppVer: 1.0.2005.824 ModName: mfbas10.dll ModVer: 1.0.2005.824 Offset: 000753bd Any ideas? Project opens great on other systems. I'd rather not have to do a re-install on this system.

     Version 1.0.2005.824?  That is 7.6 and a QFE...  But maybe not the last QFE 5 released for that version?  Is it the same on the other two DS that do not experience the crashes?

    And what do you mean by "I'd rather not have to do a re-install on this system."  If you find that something is broken (corrupted system files or else), you then just won't bother to act and repair the problem?  Sad

    Hello! All systems are on QFE4. And responding to your question - Of course I want to fix the issue, but I'd rather pin-point what the issue is so the entire thing doesn't need to be re-installed (Windows/DS 7.6, etc). Thanks, Ryan

    I was referring more to re-installing the DS application, which really does not take too long.  Obviously re-installing Windows is a bigger task.

    Since you run v7.6 and QFE 4, would you happen to have Security Update KB908531 on the DS that is problematic?  QFE 5 fixes this operating system modification that upsets DS (breaks its Explorer and Media Tool).

    Did you or did you not contact support?  This string can get very long and time-consuming if we start a diagnostic on-line...

    Another thing you might consider is, after you get your system working effectively again, create a complete backup of your boot drive.

    There are instructions on the DS Wiki, click on Backing up your boot drive. Personally, I recommend that you use O&O Disk Image 2, as it will work on both 32-bit and 64-bit systems.

    Then you use Good Sync to keep a copy of your active and inactive projects on a network drive that is striped RAID 1 (for safety). That way, it is really easy to get your good DS back from any changes Microsoft may have made and/or any changes one of your editors may have made (either on purpose or accidentally) to your formerly reliable workstation.
