has anyone upgraded to MC from xpress DV yet.
did you do the two steps, up grade to xpress pro and then again to MC?
i called avid last week and they said they planned to add a direct upgrade and i should check their online store.
any news on that? i am not finding anything.
thanks
tito
It hasn't happened yet. Hopefully soon but you know how fast avid moves....
You don't have to actually INSTALL 'Pro in order to upgrade. It's more of a finance thing than an actual product issue.
Just jump through the financial hoops and skip right to uninstalling XDV and installing MC.

thanks for the quick reply!
i know that my system will work with MC, but i would like to do some clean up before the change over. could you point me to good thread for saving old projects and deleting precomputes and the like.
thanks again
Actually it's a dongle thing. You need to update your dongle - 1st to Xpress Pro and then to MC Soft. Today that requires purchasing two upgrades and going from one to the other.
As for the software, just install MC Soft. You won;t be able to use it until you have an MC Soft dongle. See steps 1 & 2 above.
And yes, hopefully we will get a simple single step upgrade for XDV owners. And hopefully one for Liquid users as well. Note: As of today Liquid users can't upgrade to MC Soft.

my software, xpressDV4.x, did not come with a dongle so will i get one with the upgrade?
Yes you will. I remember, in the dim recesses, about XDV not having a dongle at one point. What did they give you a software key?
it came with two diffrent # one started with ID the other PK
i do not remember any problems loading it but i did have some difficulties with the boris/sorenson lite versions and thier upgrades, the DVDit was OK. are the other products that come with MC Lite versions?
Nope, full versions of BCC and Sorenson.
Am also wanting an upgrade, from what I see Xpress Pro is being fased out in favour of MC. QUery 1: why was I given a different price for the Xpress dv to Pro upgrade over the phone, at quite a big difference to what is shown as selling price on the website? Q2: What is the exact price for the double jump? (sorry i ask this on the forum but haven't been able to find an answer elsewhere).
Q3. I want an easy export / cut to dvd process. Each time cutting to dvd is a painful, timeconsuming process, always lowering my output quality in the process.
I am planning to upgrade my now ageing computer in general, as well as give my work some boost with an MC.. any guidance as to best specs -graphics cards etc- would be invaluable - as well as any tips on bettering the Avid - Sorenson - Sonic cutting process. (Does MC have the old, beloved feature of File -> Create DVD?!?)
All answers to any of the above much appreciated!!

Hi,
The Xpress DV to XPress Pro upgrade price is $495 in the US, and the price to go from Xpress DV to Media Composer is $995. The European Avid stores are all running a bit higher, but that includes VAT plus the fact that most imports from America cost more in Europe than they do in the US. An economist might be able to explain why Levi's are twice as expensive in the UK, but I can't.

Here's a link to the Xpress Pro system requirements, which list exactly which processors & video cards have been tested and are known to work.
good luck,Carl

Thanks yet again, Carl, once more you come to my rescue;) Succint and to the point! Just one thing.. are the system requirements for xpress pro the same as for mc? have contacted my local reseller and am waiting for a call back to get more info on this, so i hope to save you time and add an update to this before you do!
Best,

Hi Tola,
No problem; happy to help!
tola:are the system requirements for xpress pro the same as for mc?
Xpress Pro was Media Composer with some things disabled, so they're essentially the same as far as system requirements go. If you have a choice, get a more capable machine (or components), if for no other reason than they'll be viable for longer.
