hi every one,
i recently updated from mc 2.7 to mc 2.8. everything went fine until i realized i had an avid media files/mxf folder on my computer instead of being on ext drive where i keep all my media. how it happened i don't know but i must've done something wrong (i keep an old omfi media file taht was for little projects i can schlep around without carrying the ext drive). i transfered the mxf media (and the old omfi file too) in my ext drive, it's media, right? once copied in the ext drive, i trashed them, without empying the trash can. my avid projects bin is still in the same place.(documents/media composer/avid projects).
now when i launch MC, i select a project and sometimes i get this message :" "news" not a valid project name. cannot use characters:/:*?<> OR leading spaces, trailing spaces, trailing period OR leading _". others open just fine.
what's going on?
thanks in advance
Hi,
Is there any chance that there is a space in front of that project's name?

hi,
No, i just checked. i don't get it, it was working fine before i moved the media files folders to the ext drive. what could've happened?
thx
That's the puzzler.
Let me ask you this...If you take all of your drives offline. Does the error still come up with no media for the system to see?
yes, the error still comes up.
So we can forget about the media being the problem (Assuming you don't have any media on your internal)
When you checked the project name, were you careful to check the .avp file itself or did you just check the folder?
i don't have media on my internal anymore.
my avid projects have always been in documents / avid projects folder/ projects name folders.
i can see an .avp file in each. when should i check the.avp files? i don't understand. thx for your patience.
in the select project window / folder/ my project folder/ can't check the .avp file .
ok,
in finder /documents/ media composer folder/ avid projects folder/ one of my projects (that gets me the error message in "project window") folder/ click on the .avp file ...and it opens!
beats me up!
That .avp file is the one you want to check for spaces or any errant characters. The Avid doesn't care about the folders.
checked for spaces and errant characters. still get the same window error.
i've getting this lately too , ever since i updated to 2,8:, when i close a project:
" the project folder's name has been changed outside the editor! attic entries will put the demo et mickey folder instead of the demoetmickey folder. you should probably correct this by restoring the project folders name"
what that means and is this related to the other problem?
I'd create a new project (news2 or similar) then in the finder copy and paste the bins/folders into it.
working! thanks man. still i'd like to understand what happened.
and i still get that annoying message:
"changed outside the editor"? editor being MC, right? i changed project names to get rid of spaces and in that case it make sense i get this message. but i never changed any project names prior to that.
once again i started to get this message when i updated to 2,8.
thanks guys.
