    XDCAM EX

Hey was anyone else at Toronto's Vistek today for the Sony EX demo?

I introduced myself as an editor and promised to lay low as I figured most of the participants were there to see the camera. Turns out maybe half were editors like me who are pretty overwhelmed with giddy drink-the-kool-aid shooters who are in ga-ga land over this camera. I haven't seen this kind of buy-in since DV & Firewire hit the indie scene twelve or so years ago, so I'm taking it very seriously.

I have landed a very large job that despite my begs and pleads to the contrary, they shot EX anyway. I'm four days into using a version 0.5 freeware app I found on the web that re-renders the media from 1080 35mbps to DNxHD plus it is still taking hours to import. So, obviously I need a solution pretty quickly.

As I said, the acceptance rate of this camera is stunning. I pretty much need an EX workflow solution by Monday .... of last week. :)

Avid, please consider this my feature request.

    Yeah, not by Monday though.

The 25MB flavor is supported now and they are working on the 35MB version with the hopes of having something in an upcoming release.

I know this sounds backwards but when working with flash based media we trasfer from the card to tape first (you now have a source tape to arcive) and then capture from tape. DVCProHD works well via the HDSDI out of the camera.

Not a crazy idea at all. This solution gives you a tape backup, plus you can budget in a fixed time to injest.
