This is great stuff. I'm thinking Avid might be waking up from the 'tutorial-as-a-profit-center' approach. Hopefully we P2 users will actually be able to do what the tutorial describes very shortly...
"I scare nothing! Even you become napkins!"
(english subtitles in Hong Kong kung-fu movie)
...and I hope I don't have to pony up $$ for 3.0 so that I can once again perform what I was able to do in 2.6 or 7, namely have the app see the volumes from the actual P2 device and use them in a timeline.
Speaking of p2 content, I brought this up in the forums some time ago, but I have never been able to figure it out.
The color levels of p2 media are very different when i load a clip into Avid versus when I load the same clip into either Final Cut, Premiere or After Effects.
Does anyone know about this??
and whats the latest on sony ex1 and its cards/importing. I dont see anything about it on the latest media composer mac 2.8.3 readme. thanks a lot.
As kind of a side note to that post, yesterday I just doanloaded an update for Premiere Pro to edit xdcamEX natively...
just sayin...
x.8.3 will import and edit the 35MBS file type from the EX1. You convert it with Sony's clip browser and off you go.

great. thanks blkdog (i was hoping you would be the one to answer my question).
P2 EX what?! JK... that color difference was not apparent to me when I did that yesterday. Perhaps how you're calling out your timeline prefs in FCP?
I'm mean p2 in Avid. I think Avid adds Setup to the clips on import. My black levels are always higher in Avid than compared to when I import the same MXF file into After Effects
Are you coming in 601 or RGB? Is "NTSC has setup" checked in your General settings (If you are working in NTSC that is)?
I have tried all sorts of combinations over the past several days to try to figure this out. I spoke with the DP yesterday and he said he definately had the camera set to 0 (HPX500 shooting to p2 cards)
And as per the 601 versus RGB question, there is no way to change that option when importing p2 media, correct? It is always the same, and I don't know how its doing it. If there is a way to change the setting, please let me know ;)
Also, at this very moment I am looking at p2 material that was imported with both "ntsc has setup" checked and unchecked, and the content is identical.
Ok. I wasn't sure if you were actually importing the media or re-wrapping.
If you look on a scope, where do the blacks fall?
I have attached an image of the Avid scopes and reference frame. The DP assures me the black behind the woman was at 0 when they shot it.
