    Re: RIP Xpress Pro

I just upgraded to Pro about a month ago.  How long do you think the $495 MC upgrade deal will be around?  I need to get a couple of jobs under my belt before I can afford another upgrade. Wink  By the way, I chose my name for this forum well before this announcement.  Prophetic, huh?

Well I worked with countless TV shows. Even if the Pope promised 1080/60p support and I based my decision on that, and it does not pan out... I would be fired.

    Welcome to post production.

    Re: RIP Xpress Pro

Marianna was confirming that the feature will be in the release...not the timing. Michael was incorrect in stating that the release will be in Q2 because he has no knowledge of WHEN the release will be. Avid does not quote time tables for releases. This is a prime example why. The new release may or may not make it out by  the end of Q2 and now you're all in a froth about it. It also may be released then but, if it isn't, you'd be all pissed of 'cause someone at Avid said....

Point is, it will be out when it is. the functionality will be included as you have been told. It will not be a part of 'Pro because there will be no update to 'Pro, however, the cost of the upgrade to the new software, if history is any indication, would have been near to the upgrade price to MC anyway so you really aren't out anything by upgrading to MC.

sory this just a complete waste of everyones time - but I cant believe how much double speak and wriggling is going on here.  xpro Pal users ahve been expecting this support for years, then we get confirmation that it si coming, even given a time frame, then when it doesnt arrive we are told that its our own fault for believing what we read and are told by Avid.  This jsut beggars belief.  i'm out of here.

    About the european price.

I think Avid Europe has make a mess with their web shop. The price in swedish kronor is 4500 which is about EUR 495. If You add 19% dutch vat, You got the price at the shop. But Avid states in the help that the price is exclusive vat.

They must be much more clear about the price, why not. €590 (€495) which tells everyone about the price.

Do I take it then that the UK price is indeed £365 and that Avid is effectively charging me around £118 Inc VAT) more than it would if I lived in America?

To anyone reading this thread: this is EXACTLY why you will never see anyone at Avid quote a timeframe for a release. The minute anyone with Avid behind their name mentions a time that Avid would LIKE to get  a release out, users latch onto it and, when programs or upgrades change, as did happen here, someone get's disappointed and it's all Avid's fault ('cause there's no such thing as personal responsibility in our profession anymore).

The next time you wonder why you can't get a definite time frame for a feature or an upgrade, please bookmark Grayboy's response.

Not necessarily. Let us get clarification before you get all wiggy about this.

Nobody said that.  However, it has been suggested that no one should make a business decision based on vaporware, or the promises of a software developer.  While waiting for Avid to provide the product you want, you should use a product that works.  That's just business.

Meanwhile, for $495 yu can upgrade to Avid's flagship product.  Wow, pretty cool.  And, eventually, Avid will provide the support you want.  If you upgrade to MC, do it for what it is now.  Don't do it in anticipation of what it might be.  If you're doubtful that Avid will deliver the prodcut you want, then yes, you should choose another product ... "outa here", as you say.

No, it is not Avid who charge You the VAT, it is Gordon Brown.

The exchange rate is more difficult to work with. Today, the USD is as low as it ever has been, for some years ago it was as high it has ever been.

I think there is a point that the prices will not vary with the exchange rate. E.G, today, you would be able to by MC upgrade for SEK 3000, but next year, the price may be SEK 4500 and in two years time it may be SEK5500. Therefore, I think the policy to have the prices stable in both EUR and USD is rigth. It makes our business more easy.

You can discuss if the exchange rate is rigth. I do not realy think 1 EUR = 1USD is correct. It is more like 0.95EUR = 1USD which will give us a price for tha upgrade at EUR 475.

    BLKDOG:

Grayboy....you need to slow down a bit.

Graham Sharp spent the last two years tirelessly working to engineer this software to iron out the plentitude of bugs that had been introduced since the software versions were hatched. During that period Avid offered their software updates at ridiculously low prices. Practically free.

What I am telling you is that will not continue. Upgrade pricing to full versions of the software will be a bit more in line with the rest of the industry going forward so,you were going to pay to upgrade anyway. Now, you not only upgrade but you get MC too. It's a good deal.

I hope this is not the end of the free updates/buggfixes every 8th week. I think this is one of the advantage of Avid compare to the other A-NLEs. Avid work like a B2B company and deliver fixes as soon as possiby to their customers, and sometime some extra feature they do not hade finished in time for the last major release.

Quite right, which with VAT at 17.5% must put the UK mark up at around £100 over the dollar price. The £ and $ are running equaly low at the moment.

As has always been the case. DOT releases are always priced differently that the Full version releases. Don't know what the price will be or if there will even be a price but Avid has always differentiated between the two
