I know that Free DV does not have any "same a source" putput option.
But, I was wondering if anyone has discovered the perfect settings for exporting, then creating a DVD? I will be creating a Revion 1 (USA) DVD and am wondering what the best output settings can be.
I DID look at the "How to DVD" posting that everyone talkes about. There isn't any help there that will help an Avid Free DV user.
Many Thanks.
Hi,
In the How to DVD thread, any time you see "Export a Quicktime reference movie," as the first step, replace that with "Export a Quicktime movie using None or Animation as the codec." Otherwise, the rest of the process (encoding and burning) is exactly the same.
good luck,Carl
There is no such thing as a video emergency. My Demo Website
"Otherwise, the rest of the process (encoding and burning) is exactly the same" -
heh, except the export takes hours instead of seconds, and the resulting file is huge- (about a gig a minute) instead of tiny!
Any ideas as to what goes wrong when I try to export a (PAL) avid dv quicktime? the picture has a sort of instability on re-encode, that you can juuust see in the qt I've exported.
I will try the animation codec (and maybe none as well!) when/if I get a chance. I have a 320 gig external drive now... !

Hi Rob,
Well, yeah, the exporting process is different, because rather than exporting a small QT file that points to media, you're exporting a huge QT file that includes all the media. But after that, the rest of the process is exactly the same.
As for what's going wrong with your exports, is it the sort of thing you can post a screenshot of?
Hi Carl-
I'll try...but I can't seem to see how to insert a picture! (doh)
Having captured a still, it looks like it's an interlacing problem. But I just don't see how it can be. I'm using lower field first for the dv files, and then in procoder for PAL export, upper field first. The capture is showing much finer lines- simply looks like interlaced video. The screen I could see puased, and wanted to capture, had much blockier chunks than normal interlacing artifacts.
Ill try the animation codec- the export wasn't so bad timewise; I'll have to wait and see how the results encode.
Cheers-
Hey everyone, thanks for your replies. I think i got it. I should have asked a slightly more intelligent question.
With my final product being a DVD for NTSC, I found that I can export a QT Movie and change the setting to be "...NTSC" when i do the export.
This did reduce the file size AND it (as far as I can tell) kept the quality of the video just right for DVD viewing on the TV.
AND... the How To DVD postings did help, I had to read them a second time.
Many Thanks
