I am experience problem with 2 quad core processor HP and avid. I have a lot of time error "hardware underun..." When I remove one procesor problem disappear.

I am HP's technical liaison to the Avid engineering teams.  Until now, Avid has not supported the quad-core processors in our xw8400.  They have completed their testing, and have outlined a very specific configuration that they can support with their editing solutions.  The Configuration Guidelines document has not been published on the Avid web site yet, but you can read a preliminary version of it at:

Please make sure that your machine is configured as described in that document (with the added Firewire card, and with four 1GB DIMMs).

That' really good news! We currenlty own a few xw8400 with Dual 5130 2.0 DC, can we upgrade our systems to dual 5345 QC? We did some testing with Dual Dual core 3.0 vs 2.0 and noticed no performance enhancements in MC.



Maybe MC will be re-written to take advantage of Dual QC Cpus in its next release.

This might be a dumb question, but I can't find ANY HPxw8400 workstations with dual processors.  ie 2 dual-cores or 2 quad cores.  Can I not buy an 8400 directly from HP with 2 of these processors?  I want to set up a MC machine to add to our other avids and got all the configurations to do it myself, but can't find the workstations.

If I'm just an idiot, please someone slap me, but I really can't find them!!!

I am the product manager for the HP xw8400 Workstation.

HP allows you to fully customize the workstation to meet your needs. This includes, among other options, building the system with either single or dual processors.

First, go to the HP Workstation Home page:

This takes you to a page that shows all current workstation models. For this example select the xw8400 Workstation. This takes you to the HP xw8400 Workstation page.

From this page select the RED button labeled "Configure Your System". This takes you to a page where you can click on "Customize" for configuration starting point.

Here you can select processors, graphics, storage etc. for your system.

Thanks for the responce and the link.  Unfortunately, I have been on those pages for the past week or so, trying to get options for my system.  Once you are on the customize page, the only options the drop down menu, for processors, will offer are the 5140, 5150 and 5160 processors.  All dual-core, no option for quad-core and no options for dual dual-core, and/or dual quad core.  I have tried on 3 different computers and 2 different browsers.  I'm guessing HP's site must be having issues?

If you select the: "HP xw8400 Workstation One Step Up Promo until 4/30/08!
PS955AV-PR12" item you will be able to select any of the dual-core or quad-core processors and will also be able to select a second processor.

Another question for you Mike, or anyone else who wants this one.  Since AVID announced support for the wx8400 with dual Quad-Cores, and already supports the 8400 with dual dual-cores, am I wrong to assume support for the 8400 with a single dual-core or single quad-core?
