In response to your reply to an ealier post of mine I borrowed an older keyspan(19Qi) adapter from an older AvidXpressdv edit system and it works fine on my new setup(I had to give it back). Too bad Keyspan can't provide me with one of those. The did say they were working with Avid on the problem so maybe they can solve it. By the way I did buy a second 28X adapter just in case I had got a bad one, it didn't work any better. I will try a new 28x and fresh install one more time before I give up.Also I'll try the 28x on the older system.

    Re: Serial Port. Deck Control

Are you certain that it's not a 28xg?

We've had trouble with the Gs but the 28x (that's the older one) has been fine.

Yeah it's a 28XG. I thought that was the correct adapter.

    Re: Serial Port. Deck Control

i'm having this same problem - it was all working fine until I installed Edl Manager - could that have anything to do with it?

I don't understand what the chain is - I've deleted Keyspan, then reinstalled it, I've deleted it from the preference-network ports (no luck), then re-added it, no lluck.

There must be a correct sequence of keystrokes to get this back - it worked at the outset -

    should I reinstall the app?

    Re: Serial Port. Deck Control

One bit of advice, sometimes when you troubleshooting you get in a hurry and you may not always follow the correct sequence of installing and re-booting. Un-install the keyspan software and delete deck configs and go thru it step by step. My system is still not working right but Avid does ay least recognize the adapter , but several times while trying to fix it I was getting port busy messages, couldn't get deck config set up etc. because I failed to re-boot after re-installing . Also sometimes I had to dump MC state files. Good Luck

    Re: Serial Port. Deck Control

I did reboot after uninstalling and again after installing -
I'm going to go through the full Mac Cheat Sheet fixes (now that my show has onlined) and if something works, i'll post it.

Seems to be a common problem with no clear fix.

Odd thing was that it worked fantastically up until last week - I was digitizing from a betadeck with rs-422 and a DSR-11 with firewire through the mojo.

I do find the instructions for clearing the port from the internet set up confusing, though. Do I just deselect it? Then it shows up grey-ed out but is still there.

    Re: Serial Port. Deck Control

I"ve  been in contact with Keyspan and after deciding that I had installed everything correctly they e-mailed me back that they were in contact with Avid about this problem. Will let every know if they solve it.
Also to jes the network configurations will show as greyed out, any old ports that are not active with active one dark.. I've spent hours tryoing to solve this problem and I'm convinced it is not on the Mac network configs as I have tried unchecking and checking and nothing seems to help. I have, in my efforts, got the port is busy but have always fixed that by un-installing and re-installing Keyspan(using their latest download from their site), deleteing old deck configs in Avid and staring a new channel.
If anyone finds a complete answer let us know.

Any update on this?  I need to buy a Keyspan or viable alternative.

    Thanks,

    Re: Serial Port. Deck Control

to jef; No reply from Keyspan but their product seems to work fine for most users, if installed correctly. I'm still stumped on my problem but I now use my analog/dv converter's(Datavideo DAC-15) Rs-422 port and it works but with problems outputting.

    Re: Serial Port. Deck Control

So I read this thread because I did a fresh install of Mac Leopard, Media Composer 3.5. i have a Sony PVW-2800 with zero control. i am up and running with this setup.

    Download Driver from Keyspan

in my Deck Config. I set up a new channel with a DIRECT connect using my USA28x3d1p2.2 (plugged my serial into port 2).

I then connect it to my Sony deck. Hit apply and close.

I went to my "communication (serial) Ports" (a couple options above Deck Config. in the settings)

    I chose keyserial1

I have deleted both my Serial network settings in system Prefs.

I then opened digital cut and check decks. it worked.

note: I did the communication (serial) port first, though I don't know if this makes a difference.

Make sure the COMMUNICATIONS PORT and CONTROLLER SETTINGS  are both set to NONE. It might also be worth resetting your P-RAM and disk permissions.

I found that my Mac was sharing the port with Bluetooth. So when I turn Bluetooth off when starting up AVID and it no works fine...
