    Re: Color Bars?

    hey..at 22 years of age...hum...

if it was fender strat or a gibson les paul...or a car - I'd have to wait at least 3 more years for it to be really a vintage deal (with an upward trend in the value factor...of certain models...welcome to the collectors lottery...where the only guaranteed losers are tech hoarders)....

that's the trouble with tech...it just kind of falls to zero.(although i just saw a vx1000 on ebay bid up to almost $1k yesterday...hum...didn't they start out at $7k...hum again...hum)..

get in grab a buck, and get out of every  tech 'generation' that this industry has/is/and will serve-up/demand of its participating capital investors.....emotional about post equipment is a ....well...a $ losing venture...although...I still have a 16 mil bolex...and I freaking love that thing!

all said two more days to the end of bidding on that monitor - so what should be my ceiling..what is that puppy worth today....or am I better off getting a Lacie IV 22 inch for $100? (as I can go VGA into that puppy...can I do that with the ebay monitor?)

asking those in the know ..as it is outside of my knowledge base, your thoughts are greatly appreciated!

Be aware of the fact that there is no componenent input, (RGB yes) no 16/9. Picture most likely won't be very sharp, due to tha age.

    Hi Sep,

what in your opinion is the best deal in the market place today for true video monitors - please feel free to expand your answer to include gear that may be a few years old, but is still, in your opinion, nailing the job

    Re: Color Bars?

CRT trinitron monitors are still a good choice, when they aren't too expensive ! The problem may be lack of 16/9 compatibility, no component input etc.. LCD video monitors are cheaper then CRT were, they however hide some essential dysfunctions like jittering (which may happen) on stills. Black isn't as deep as CRT's. But today very few manufacturers provide new CRT's.

Sep, you still in France?  unless your monitor is multi-standard don't think that Secam would work with NTSC

    Re: Color Bars?

Mvegas, the monitor mentioned above (Sony PVM 2010) is SECAM/PAL/NTSC. However, currently, NO professional monitor is in SECAM, because NOTHING is (no longer) produced in SECAM, averything is produced in PAL and transcoded at the last broadcasting STEP.

    Re: Color Bars?

Great. They're still there. Invaluable to have something generated by the system itself - one less variable?
(Using Avid's own H.264 export for the first time; finding colours deeper and blacks clipped.)
