Avid has released a new set of codecs for use with Quicktime. The main enhancement is that DNxHD codecs now support exporting with alpha channels from third party applications like After Effects. Also, to clarify a question many of you have been wondering...the LE package of codecs include all codecs except for the MPEG IMX codec (because of licensing issues). The PE package of codecs include all codecs and is only available when you download purchased software.
NOTE: There is a bug in this version of the codec that causes After Effects to crash in 16-bit mode. If you need this functionality, do not use these codecs. A bug fix will be released soon.
To download these codec, click here. Please post any issues you have installation or use of these codecs in this thread.

Having just installed MC 2.81 I assume these are the same codecs that came with that version (?)
Effectively with dv codec it s posssible to export from after effect a million color +, so an alpha channel, but it don't work. Avid see an alpha channel but it s a full screen one for me.
IMHO, the millions of colors + is present by default, but has no action on AE alpha esport.

It shouldn't be. The DV spec doesn't support an alpha channel.
Glad you share my opinion !
Is there any need to download and install these codec updates if you have recently installed 2.8.1?
I'm guessing they are not the same as 2.8.1, because that release fixed a specific thing, and the codecs came out after 2.8 was released. I would download them if you want them.
That being said, Avid is testing a bug fix regarding the 16-bit thing in AE. If that affects you, you might want to wait until that is released, which should be shortly.
Nothing is mentioned in the MC2.8 read me file.
Ah... this I must try.
I currently use the ANIMATION codec + alpha which works great but I'm always open to trying the new stuff.
P.S. - Too bad about the 16bit mode tho
I am working with HD footage that I shot with a green chroma lite. I need to key out the green (no problem with Spectra Matte) and then export video to be worked on in Flash. No matter what codec I use, or export setting, there is no ALPHA CHANNEL present in my exported video. Can someone please confirm for me if Media Composer or Xpress Pro HDcan export with an alpha channel or if something needs to be done in After Effects.
