Going from DS Nitris to Avid Xpress

Hi, I've a project shot in HD.

I have to capture the HD tapes with DS Nitris, and need to take the media to an Avid Xpress to be edited.
After editing I have to bring it back to Nitris to do the finishing.

How can I capture DNxHD at, let's say 115mbts and then import the media created into an Avid Xpress??

Does MXF media creating support timecode?? I need this because I have to take back the finished project to NItris to do the finishing and recapture without compression.

I heard something about setting MXF directories in NItris to be able to create MXF in capture, otherwise Nitris creates .gen files, which Avid Xpres doesn't support.

Is there anybody who has done this before???

    Thanks in advance.

    Hello,

Just so you understand clearly that DS is indeed an Avid product but it is different from the other products by its meta data structure.  You can capture your media and clips in DS but you can only export EDL files from the DS to import in Avid Xpress.  DS is not creating Projects and Sequences data that is compatible with other Avid products.

DS can writes MXF or GEN media files.  You make this decision when you configure its storages and select either MXF or GEN.  Same for audio: you select either MXF or WAV.

The majority of users will create the project and capture the media with Media Composer or a product capable of handling HD and DNxHD, then export the project as AFE.  Work rarely starts on a DS to migrate to an Avid.  DS has been designed as a high-end finishing solution.

Avid DS import the AFE data and relinks to the MXF media.  If compressed, the media cna be used for verification and the same clips can be recaptured uncompressed for the finishing.

    Hello!

First, capture you're HD tape with DS Nitris and use MXF Files or GEN Files.  If you can, capture with the DNxHD 36 resolution.  Than download DS Assist trial version (45 days of trial).  I hope 45 days is enough for you.  Archive your project, copy your media (GUID) on your drives (could be Firewire drives) and restore your project and Edit with DS Assist... At the end, send it back to the DS Nitris.

    Why use AVID Xpress Pro???

Check www3.softimage.com web site for Minimal requirements for a generic Avid DS Assist Station platform.  The graphic card is the most important...Not all graphic card give a real time playback in DS. Go with the FX 1500 if you can.

Do you get any errors in the EDL Manager console?

    Are the framerates the same?
