I have been trying to make this switch. I've been using Xpress Pro 5.7 on my PC for a while and just got a Mac Book Pro. When I installed the software there were some error messages about files that installed incorrectly. These errors have popped up whenever I'd boot up the computer, not even opening Avid. I wound up trying to find the files and deleting them and now the errors don't pop up.
In deleting the files I found that it LOOKS like Avid is on the computer so I've plugged in the dongle and tried opening it, but I just get the message that there is no dongle. I've tried a few different USB ports and each time I plug in the Dongle the indicator light on it is illuminated. And yet it still says that there's no Dongle.
I think I did read somewhere that the dongle comes ready to work on either Mac or PC, but if you upgrade the software then it looses that switch capability. I can't find now where I read that, but if it's true what do I do about it? It looks like I can download a Dongle Updater program now would that take care of my problems?
Thanks,
Jonny
The dongle is Mac or PC compatible but you've need to be running a compatible version of Xpress Pro with the Mac OS. Read the Cheat Sheet post on the top of the forum page. If you want to run Leopard (OSX 10.5.x) you'll need to upgrade to Media Composer 3.0.5 or later. If you have a brand new Mac Book Pro you won't be able to downgrade to Tiger (OS X 10.4.x) as that computer won't allow you to install a older OS version.
Must think of something clever to go here...
I guess as Avid have retired Avid Xpress Pro that there will never be a Leopard (OSX 10.5.x) compatible update for Avid Xpress. RIP
Thanks for pointing out my problem, I am running on OS X 10.5.4 which is apparently not Xpress Pro compatible. I'm actually running Windows XP on this computer through boot camp and have my Adobe Creaative Suite on there so I'll just stick to windows for now until I can make the Media Composer upgrade.
Ha! I'm using my mac for word processing and Windows for the heavy editing!
Thanks again
For what it's worth, the upgrade to Media Composer is totally worthwhile in my opinion. And it would get you dual-platform support with Leopard, obviously.
