    Re: Problem with Quicktime reference

I also see you are using 5.7.5. You might want to upgrade to 5.8 as I think this issue was solved in one of the upgrades.

[EDIT] Come to think of it, the combination of 5.7.5 and QT 7.4 is not helping matters. You need to upgrade your Avid to a current version and downgrade QT. If you still have the problem after that, I will have a quick chat with Avid.

Ok, well, the only thing to do is to get you into spec before I can report the issue so, if you have the time, I would downgrade to 7.3.1 as a test.

    Re: Problem with Quicktime reference

Early reports: QT 7.4 is CRAP.  I'm reading all kinds of horror stories about it on my After Effects and Digital Performer forums.

My advice: Don't EVER upgrade Quicktime until you hear that it's working reliably from a variety of sources.  The latest reliable builds, according to my sources are 716 and 731.

    Re: Problem with Quicktime reference

You need to do an Archive and install of your OS back to a pre-7.4 Qt and then upgrade to 10.4.10 and QT 7.3.1 again.

    Re: Problem with Quicktime reference

I`ve been using Avid Xpress Pro but I`m having some problems with the exportation of movies. I've learned here in the forum that the problem was caused by QuickTime 7.4. But I`ve already installed the QT 7.2 (recommended) and the problems still hapen.

I`m ataching an example of the problem I`m having. My question is: will these problems still happen with the upgrade to Media Composer ?

How can i make the upgrade from Brasil ?

    Thanks

    Re: Problem with Quicktime reference

The problem in your attached pic is not the version of the QT software or the Avid. it is a result of "Pixel Stretching" that occurs when a 720 x 486 frame is forced into a 720 x 480 DVD output.

The easiest way to solve this would be to maybe check the "Use DV Codec" option in the output (That's theoretical so let  us know if it solves anything). If that doesn't work, try exporting  a DV stream and see if that makes things better.

Looking back through this thread, I see we've been over this ground before. It seems that  the problem with QT ref was not what I thought was fixed. So, we are left with the stretching I mentioned in your MPEG 2 encoding. Try the DV Stream route and see if that works for you.
