Media Domain Type/Locator is Null error

    Hello:

I have a project that is 99% complete that played fine yesterday.  When I opened the project today, I get the following message:

Exception: GetMediaDomainType( ) - Unable to get Domain Type because Locator is Null.

What the heck is this and how can I salvage my project without starting from scratch?

    Thanks,
    Michael

I have never heard of this one, but just a silly question...  are you sure that the drive/s that you digitised your footage to are available, including drive/s that you may have rendered onto?

The drive is there.  I am using the Avid Unity Lanshare system with 3 Xpress Pro systems on it and it is connecting.  All three machines give me the same error message, so it is not unique to just one editor.  All of my digitized clips are still available.  I've also verified that all of the clips are in the sequence because I can move the timeline bar throughout the project and see everything.  It's just when I press "play", the error message appears.

That's really weird.  I have searched the knowledge base and the only thing that comes up is for an Adreneline error:

One other suggestion, have you tried trashing the databases on the drive?  If not, then go to ..\Avid MediaFiles\MXF\1 and look for msmFMID.pmr as well as msmMMOB.mdb and trash them.  Then go to ..\OMFI MediaFiles and trash the same two files there.

Launch Studio and let it rebuild the database and see if that helps.

Sorry I can't be of more help.  Maybe someone else has some suggestions.

Re: Media Domain Type/Locator is Null error

This same error message has appeared on two more completely different projects.  They were created by different people, at different times, using different pieces of video.  All of the digitized clips are still there and are viewable in the Superbin Window.  All of the edits are still visible on the Timeline, but the error appears when trying to play.

Trashing the OMFI files does not do anything to correct the problem.

I've got some very upset people who's project were 99% complete yesterday, but have to almost start from scratch today.

Thanks for the input so far.

I had the same error and it turned out to be a corrupt project or project setting making a new project and copying the bins in solved this problem.

Check if your audio files have gone in as PCM (MXF) files...transcode.
