quick time video out component and mxo support

    Hi,

I just bought a matrox mxo device, working great in almost every video application I have but xpress pro.

The reason for that is the lack of support for the quicktime video out component in xpress pro.

Supporting this would allow the mxo to work in"mastering mode" with xpress pro and therefore providing us with a real video monitoring solution for HD (not the preview given by fullscreen playback or the downconvert of mojo).

This is something that can easely be achieved by software update (avid is already a quick time based app) and the only reason avid is not doing it has to be commercial one.

I could understand that if the matrox mxo where an IO device providing hardware acceleration, it would then be a direct competitor to adrenaline.

But that's not the case, the mxo is just providing outputs and does not give you any acceleration. So it does'nt replace adrenaline nor mojo (witch give us other functionality for SD like 24P or inputs).

It would just be support for a third party hardware allowing us to take full advantage of xpress pro HD capacity. Something making the avid solution more complete without interfiering with avid hardware line marketing.

I'm just hoping that someone at avid realises that an xpress pro user needs a decent way of monitoring hd. Many other posts have requested that. With the mxo it does only require the good will of avid.

Support the quicktime video out component please !!!

A lot of us are asking for a solution, this is the easier one.
Next CPR maybe??? I know i'm dreaming but how hard that can be?

    Nicolas

    Several things...

    1.
This is something that can easely be achieved by software update

No such thing or at least unlikely that easy.

    2.
(avid is already a quick time based app)

Actually it is not. This is a common misconception. Avid is OMF/MXF based. Quicktime is used for file import and export. But even then, incomming files are converted to OMF and MXF. Quicktime exports are generated from the native Avid formats of OMF and MXF.

    3. and most important...
Avid, like Apple, Matrox, AJA and etc, is a hardware company. It is unlikely for them to support products that has overlap functions with their current hardware.

That being said... Avid really nees to make the DNA products and NLE apps standout from the rest of the pack both in price and functionality (to this day i do not know why Mojo/ADrenaline cannot be used for other apps other than AE).
If not, MXO and such will keep eating their lunch.

Re: quick time video out component and mxo support

    Ok, thanks for the clarification,

I just assumed avid was quicktime based because of the issues you get when you the don't have the matching version of quicktime running with your version of xpress pro.
The famous "do not upgrade QT before the newer version is approved by avid" !

Now regarding the MXO support, I just think it would be in avid best interest, bringing an added value to xpress pro, with no overlaping with their current hardware.

You cannot seriously compare adrenaline to MXO for obvious reasons and the Mojo is an SD IO device that offers extended support for 24P among other benefits.(I own one and will keep using it for SD).

MXO would be a great way to monitor HD for xpresspro users, and there's no such hardware in avid 's product line.

I agree with you it's unlikely for avid to support the mxo, it's simply not their policy but in the other hand it's no secret avid's loosing market shares because no HD monitoring solution is offered besides adrenaline.

I'm just hoping they realise it's time for a change !

In light of the new hardware announcements, I would like to have a product feature request for a proper, cost-effective HD monitoring solution
