Re: Unity V5, macintel, Fibre manager disconnects sporadically

As far as "testing" fiber cables. Actually, in LA you can get "loss testing" which will tell you if your cables are in good shape for a couple hundred bucks ($250-$375) for a small rig (up to a dozen seats or so). It's mostly about having a loss tester and the skills to use it.

The heavier tests are generally not required for most fiber channel setups, in my experience, just if you are passing enough light or not and a bad cable will throw you for a loop when troubleshooting.

By the way, we have 4 intel MC softs running 3.0 on leopard with MN5.1 and I'm seeing the drops and also the "filesystem is not correctly installed". Connected via fiber to a Lanshare LP.

Any word on whether this is a bug that might get fixed or are we just doing something wrong. I did notice that 5.1 ships with the 2006 version of firmware for the 41es. Anyone have new info? Users are less than thrilled. ;)

    Hi,

We went from having 10 drops outs a day to about 1 after removing the ethernet cable from the macIntels.

Please make sure that automatic login is not selected in the apple preferences and that should solve the "filesystem is not correctly installed". That will give the OS a bit more time to start the services for MN.

Auto login off was a good tip. Also, we were advised of the wrong fiber hba settings by a dealer. Got that straight and it's rolling. Seems like there's a lot of confusion with all the different hardware versions of Unity out there.

Thanks, once again the Avid forum comes through.

    Hi,

I think he's talking about putting the cards in node. PTP (Point to Point) vs Arbitrated was mention in the first post.

Sorry guys, I was away for a bit. Here's the settings that I found on here. They seem to work, although I'm testing the newest version of the Atto firmware. (MN 5.1 ships with a 2006 firmware which concerns me in a Leopard machine)

    Unity Atto Fiber Settings:

PTP preferred for Q Logic switch

    PTP for 4gb Lanshare LP

Arbritrated Loop for 2gb Lanshare or Vixel switch
