Is Chrome dead?
I can't find any word about this product from Avid or Pinnacle web. Also the new forums on Pinnacle site are for Liquid and Liquid Pro only.
Does somebody have any more information on it?Moderators?

Priit (and All),
Please note that effective 3 weeks ago I resigned from my poisition as an Avid webboard moderator. My resignation coincides with the move of all Liquid products from Avid to Pinnacle. However, there are better things to come because I'm aware of three other possible moderators who are available to take over my previous role for Chrome HD/Xe but I'm un-sure about the status of this because given my resignation I logically do not receive any further updates from Avid about what is going on.
Chrome certainly is not dead but based on Avid's previous notification which I posted on this webboard; the transfer of this webboard to the Pinnacle webboard would be the next step and this probably explains why currently there is nothing on the Avid and Pinnacle webpages regarding HD/Xe.
My apologies for not personally notifying users of my resignation a little earlier.

Good news.
Over the night (Europe) the Chrome Xe forum appeared.
My post was propably few hours to early.....
Does the "new" Chrome forum include those of us using Chrome HD? It's listed as Chrome XE, but I have no plans to update to XE, so I am curious about this. I just want to make sure I have a place to read/post about issues for a product we have spent many thousands of dollars on.
Actually, I think the question is "Is Chrome SOL?" My understanding is that Chrome HD remains part of Avid while everything else goes back to Pinnacle. My understanding from Immersion is that there will be no more development of Liquid, only some patches and third-party extentions, as Pinnacle moves from Liquid to a new product. So, where does that leave us as Chrome HD owners? Boat anchor owners?
Well, not for a while, based on what I heard here at Immersion. It is clear, however, that Avid and Pinnacle want to move anyone at the broadcast level to Media Composer and position future liquid variants for "videographers". I'm not sure exactly what that means, except that the intention seems to be to reserve "broadcast" for Avid. Pinnacle/Avid has offered a substantual discount on the Media Composer software to Immersion attentees.
I can see the business reasons for this. As many have noted, having two product lines, one of which is clearly cheaper but in some ways superior (especally at the DV Express level) doesn't make a lot of sense. And Avid has for years been fighting to maintain control of what they used to dominate.
Now, I've been a liquid supporter since day one, when it was "601", and before that I was a Video Machine owner, so I've seen this whole evolution. "601" was created to compete with Media Composer at the broadcast level, and it's been a major asset to my business and current success. I'm one of those oddballs that just would like to keep the current software and improve it, becuase I could then continue along my merry way without major disruption. But evidently that isn't to be.
In addition to having an xdcam already I ordered the Sony ex-1 yesterday, and intend to move in that direction. Liquid is fairly weak in xdcam and given the plan to only patch the interface while writing a new application to replace it, I don't see much hope that xdcam support will be increased.
The good thing to come out of this, always looking for the silver lining, is that Chrome will still be viable for a while. This gives me time to make my choice: Media Composer or FCP. In my market I have one friend who uses Media Composer. I have 30 friends who use FCP. It will evidently cost me about the same to move to either one and get to the hardware/software level I have now with Chrome. So that's a clear sign.
And FCP is agressive in xdcam support and everything else. I don't particularly like it and don't want to have to learn it and the whole Mac interface but I feel I'm getting pushed in that direction. Vegas has excellent xdcam support but then it's Vegas, an audio editor with video added.
At least there's some time to make a decision. Right now it appears that, in my case, Avid's wanting to control the broadcast segment will push me to FCP, something I've resisted for years.
I have to add that the Avid/Pinnacle folks who were here at Immersion were open and seem to be nice guys. I think *personal opinion* that these decisions are made at the top level and prbably make perfect sense from the Avid perspective. That doesn't help me much, of course, but reality frequently intrudes into my grand plans. I just know I'll need to make a decision by the end of the year, for tax reasons and to give me a year or so to get past the learning curve and be able to do what I can do in Liquid in something else.
Hi!Was there some years ago when edit* was facing EOL. Out choise then where Pinnacle edition when edit didn´t deliver the needs of DVD, windows media etc. A great tool and is a true "PRO" workhorse. Also seen the videos and my feeling is that some tools we now have will maybe lack in the new version because of focusing on a smaller customer base. Will the new editor have OMF, EDL, MFX and pro video and audio interfaces to name some? The new Liquid/AJA combination is brilliant and was on our purcase list for next year. But now??Is Pinnacle/Avid looking to much on the US market? There is not so many "wedding photografers" around here. Composer is well known but the price to get the pro I/O box is far away for us. FCP no. We are a PC camp. Adobe? Perhaps. So we wait and see what to come. NAB perhaps???best regards
