I'm curious too - as we're heading there right now. Why can't I just copy my P2 info to Blu-ray read/write and archive that way? Will I be able to re-import from the Blu-ray like we do with the P2 cards?
We're archiving on HDD and importing into Avid from there. The P2 cards actually never touch the avid system. Cost wise storing on 1TB drives works out at sub 20c/Gb where bluray disks (in our part of the world) cost closer to $1/Gb. I also think the HDDs are a bit more robust for long term storage. Remember the "they will last for 20 years" dvd issues - turned out some of those dye batches barely made 5 before they started to produce errors.
As a foot note, we're taking delivery of the newer cheaper faster P2 cards with shorter life spans. They state 5 years typical usage - has anyone had P2 failures and are they a frequent thing? Another reason to dump to HDD and then format - less read/write to the cards perhaps.
Vote 1 - Dongles.
We also archive to hard drives. In fact we order them in bulk, and archive to two hard drives. One stays on site, and the other off site. Unfortunately, I don't do the ordering so I can't remember where we get them or how much they are - but I can tell you that compared to blu-ray they're dirt cheap. We have an enclosure on the desktop, and switch out the drives as needed. It's very efficient and very cheap.
We shoot in AVCIntra 100 and transcode to DnX 145. We archive the original clips before the transcode.

We had the P2 cameras as the tapeless process wasn't any problem for us. We did all the backups on "IT side". For better work we got FS-100. We bought 3 for 2 cameras and that was right as one FS-100 was always on repair. We could play and edit two camera recording in MC in original DVCPro HD without dropped frames. But HVX200 cameras were noisy and we werent happy with the colors even after changing the color profiles. Finally we sold them and got two EX1. The original picture profiles in camera weren't usable for us agian but I managed to find better ones in forums and we are now happy with them. The quality is way better. The editing in native MPEG2 feels a bit lesser responsive in MC but not that much so we doesn't do transcoding for editing process.
