    Another Sound card issue

Realised I posted this into a resolved thread so apologies if you've already seen this.

At present I have a Tyan Thunder 7505 mb which uses the integrated sound (soundmax driver). If I go into the Control Panel and set the default voice and audio to Mbox I lose the speaker option and the windows mixer. Most sound (including that from Avid) comes out of the Mbox (I've put 3.5 to 1/4 adapter on the speaker cable and plugged it into the output of the Mbox) but playing back the Flash movies that form the Studio tutorial results in the sound coming out of the PC internal speaker! Disabling the interanl sound card does not resolve this. Is there something fundamental I'm missing?

The motherboard in my xw8000 workstation is also a Tyan Thunder based on the Intel 7505 chipset.  I have been unable to replicate this error thus far.  I'm still trying to figure out what your problem may be.  In the event that I can't, you might try dropping a line to either Tyan Tech Support or Digidesign Tech Support and see if you can drum up an answer in the event that I can't.  If you do, please post back for all of us to read!

    Thanks.

Mbox & Sound Card Settings: How To Get All PC Audio Coming Out of Mbox??

I've done a search and the only related problem I found was this. Oedipus, have you found a solution? Anyone has any suggestions on how to configure sound card to get all PC audio to come out of Mbox instead of out of the interna speaker? Right now I have two sets of speakers, one set connected to the Mbox and the other connected to PC outputs. But when I'm working with other audio software other than Pro Tools, sound comes out of the PC speakers and I want everything coming out of the Mbox.

    Thanks!

    Hi,

yep, problem more or less resolved. I did a clean install of Studio when the upgrade came out and found a piece of software on http://www.digidesign.com/download/wave/  (direct link http://www.railjonrogut.com/DigiMMEHelper.zip ) called MME Helper that enables you to use the digidesign wave driver for other programs on your system.

Do I need to have the upgrade in order for the download to work? Is this an upgrade for Avid Xpress Studio Essentials too? I guess I haven't kept up with the latest upgrades info.

    Thanks!

    Re: Another Sound card issue

I didn't try it prior to upgrade so can't say for sure. The upgrade to Avid Xpress Studio HD 5.2.1 can be found at http://www.avid.com/register/xpressstudiohd_cpr.asp Installation is not as obvious as you might expect  - see http://www.avid.com/exchange/forums/thread/65182.aspx for how you go about it. The upgrade is for both versions of Studio and is free (though there is an upgrade - actually a replacement program afaik) for DVD by Sonic that costs $50.

    Re: Another Sound card issue

Thanks for all the info. I have Studio Essentials with Avid Xpress Pro v. 4.6 so I didn't see a free upgrade for this version, or am I missing something?

As for the sound card issue, I managed to solve it! Thanks for your help. I reinstalled Mbox and then went to control panel and set it as default audio device. Then in my other audio applications (like Adobe Audition) I selected as default device too. Everything worked fine.

    Thanks!
