Kelly of Avid Tech Support mentioned to me that this ongoing audio input problem with versions newer than 5.2.4 was caused by the JVC Mini-DV/S-VHS deck I am using to input audio and video. Well, obviously the problem is caused by many more input devices than my old JVC.
For those of you with this problem, I would like to compile a list of system specs (especially your input devices) so that I can forward that information on to Kelly. Please post that detailed information here.
Perhaps with enough information (and if she can see how many people this effects) the fine folks of Avid will take some action and actually do something about it.
Thanks.

Definetly something I'd like to see sorted out
Running AXP on HP zd8000 laptop (ATI X600 graphics card-one of the few qualified, 3.2ghz P4 proc, 2 gig Ram) most of the time use on-board conexant card, occasionally for 5.1 breakout I'll use a soundblaster pcmcia card, and infrequently when bouncing between AXP and Adobe Audition I will designate a tascam or m-box USB connected breakout interface box as system sound card (all other AXP audio features function well with any of these set-ups) Decks connected are either Sony DSR-11 (field), or DSR-25 (office). Test with cameras (Pani HVX, DVX, and Sony PD150) yielded same failed results. Work around (having tape loaded and actively recording) works.
EDIT: AXP 5.7, XPproSP2, no mojo

Dual 2.8 GHZ, 2 Gigs of ram, Nvidia 540FX, Sound Blaster Audigy, 160 HD internal, 300 HD internal, Windows XP service pack 2.
The camera that had this problem was the Sony Digital8 TRV-460.
Hope this helps

and this is also the reason that i didn't upgrade to 5.7
Hey folks......... Menno escalated this situation to me yesterday and here is what I have found.
You have to choose transcoder as your device first but then you will need a fix or you'll get timecode repeats causing the audio to be written in as zeros - hence the errors.
QA says there is a fix coming soon and says it has to do with using the device as a transcoder. It's difficult to tell from the posts above if that is how some of you are using the devices, or whether tyou are using the decks as just decks, but QA can reproduce the issue, and a fix is coming soon which will solve their problems. From what I can gather - the fix will be in June.
Email me directly if this is not what is happening to you and I can research further.
Thanks Menno for letting me know this was happening.
