    No Audio During Capture!!!

I am currently running AVID Media Composer 2.6.1 on a Quad G5 PPC with Mac OSX 10.4.6.

Before I installed the upgrade the Audio was fine, I had levels and heard the audio just fine. After I upgraded to 2.6.1 I lost the audio.

    Can someone please help?

    Thanks,
    Sean

Possibly but can you please tell us how your audio is connected? FW?> Analog? Mojo? No Mojo?

    It's all in the details.

    Re: No Audio During Capture!!!

I have a DVD player connected to my dv deck via rca. the dv deck gets levels and the speakers conected to the deck produces audio. The deck is connected to the Quad via firewire 400. I tried another firewire cable but nothing happened.

In that config, you must capture video at the same time...even if it's black. Are you?

the audio and video are coming from the same source thru the same firewire cable...does that mean anything? When I do capture, I see the picture...just no sound.

Have you actually captured?  In the past there was an issue with FW audio not registering on the meters during capture, but once the clip was captured it was there and fine.  Is that happening?

Jeez... this is an odd one... a few total long shots:

Does the CPU mute button make any difference?

    44.1 vs. 48khz issue?

You have audio from the DVD player to the DV Deck, and audio out via the speakers.  But what about audio out via FW?  Can you test that?  Can you pop in a normal DV tape and get audio into the Avid?

    Re: No Audio During Capture!!!

Odd indeed! I just popped a DV tape into the deck and got levels into the AVID...but that's not all. Then , I played the DVD thru the deck and got levels as well! But that's not all! I removed the tape from the deck and the audio was still there, and as I started to write this email I switched back to AVID and guess what...no levels.

The audio plays from the DVD player for a mere few seconds then cuts out. If I put a tape in the deck the audio plays from the DV tape and that's all. If I stop the tape the audio plays from the DVD player for a few secs.

P.S. The mute button doesn't make any difference and it's not the 44.1 vs. 48 either. I tried both.

    Re: No Audio During Capture!!!

OK... but this tells us that the Avid is in fact correctly receiving an audio signal directly from the DV deck.  So the issue is what is causing the audio from a secondary device, piping through the DV deck, to conk out?  If you leave a DV tape in, stopped, does the DVD audio maintain?  Is there possibly a feature that dictates whether audio out of the DV deck is coming off the record head or the playback head?  I'd explore the audio out settings on the deck.
