if done with an effect capable to do so you could switch it to 'show alpha' and export a quicktime movie from the timeline.

    Re: Exporting alpha channel

Could you be more precise and describe your methiod with details, daapap, I myself never was able to export video +alpha channel out of the Avid. The only way has been to output the alpha separately from the video, that is to say in 2 steps.

    sep,

That's what daapap is suggesting.  He's talking about how to get the Alpha Quicktime out of the Avid using Animatte.  But he still needs two separate QuickTime files.

    Re: Exporting alpha channel

right you are, Kevin. I had overseen the word "contains" and thought he wanted to export a separate file with only the alpha channel.

    sorry if i misguided anyone.

thanks to both of you, Kevin and Daapap.

OK, no Daapap, you didn't misguide me, I just couldn't understand your method, now everything is clear, thanks to Kevin's and your clarifications.

    Re: Exporting alpha channel

But it would be a nice feature if Avid could export with alpha chanel, wouldn't it?

    Re: Exporting alpha channel

I already did export the alpha channel just as Daapap says. Imprting again the two separate files as Kevin says i was able to aply aninmatte promote the effect to 3D and have lots of gadgets to aply. It was fun.

Thanks Daapap, Kevin and Sep for your interest and yor time.

    Re: Exporting alpha channel

Happy you could do your alpha export, however, I would insist about Daapap suggestion !

Yes it would be VERY VERY good to be able to export footage + alpha in 1 file !

Can you hear us Avid ? I'll re write a new post on requests / suggestion forum.

    Re: Exporting alpha channel

cachobri, if this is what you wanted (have i overseen anything else?) i would suggest something much simpler than extracting, exporting and re-importing.

normally you cannot matchframe clips with an alpha channel like keys, titles, imported graphics and movies with alpha aso. but after entering "subsys monpane debug" in the console (ctrl+6) you get rid of the annoying "precomputes cannot be loaded ..."-message.

now matchframing the clip (lets say a title) you will see two videotracks in the player. V1 is the fill, V2 the key. If you edit them back into the timeline instead of the original clip and then apply the matte effect onto the key-track you will have the same result as before but with separate key- and fill-tracks.
