    Clip Name Handling within Bins

    Request 1

Would be really useful if we could rename selected clips within a bin with an incremental suffix.  For instance I may have 30 odd Office GVs that I would like name idividually.  Currently I selct the clips, right-click on a Clip Name and select 'Set Name Column for Selected Clips' I then go through each clip to add a 01, 02, 03, 04  . . . etc.  Be much better to be able to specify a name and a starting number for the suffix so that clips are automatically renamed eg:

    Office GVs 01

    Office GVs 02

    Office GVs 03

    Office GVs 04

    . . . etc . . .

    Request 2

Also, I use a Canon C300 MkII which stores video in full and proxy resolutions.  I import the full res clips into one bin and the proxies into another so that each bin has the same number of clips, sorted in the same order.  Effectively identical bins except for resolution.

I would like to rename the clips in the full res bin so that I have meaningful clip names and then be able to copy those clips names to trhe corresponding clips in the proxy bin.  That way, when I come to relink to the full res clips, I still retain the clips names on the timeline.  A bit like the Cmd-D function but between bins rather than columns.

Not done this in a while but can't you do an ALE export from bin 1 of the modified clips and import into Bin 2 to merge those changes?

I tried that but couldn't get it to work.  Maybe something I was doing wrong.

I saw this demo of Michael Krulik showing Media Composer 2019.9 and the rename feature look 4 min into the video on Youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QuJZ0MzAA0c

Thanks Leo. I just took a look at the video. That is exactly what I’m looking for. However, it doesn’t appear to be available in my 2019.9.  Maybe it didn’t make it to the release version.

Re: Clip Name Handling within Bins

You are welcome, maybe it'll be in the next release? I posted this question on the forum the other day about that bulk rename as it would be very handy as had to manually by hand edit hundreds of files in Media Composer last week.

    Thanks,

    Leo
