    OMG LOST ALL TODAYS WORK - WASN'T SAVING

    Had a crash at about 19:00 and rebooted.  Sequence bin reverted to last save at 12:40.  No problem I thought - I'll just dig it out of the Attic.  This is my Attic. Massive gap in save times between 12:56 and 19:01.

    I just lost 6 hours work.  Absolutely gutted.  Anyone any ideas why it 'pretends' to save but isnt?  It was saving some bins and some Attic bins - but not my crucial main sequence bin :(

    Re: OMG LOST ALL TODAYS WORK - WASN'T SAVING

    Hi,

    Check in the Avid Eventlog.log and in the Avid Console for "BinWriteMessage: Execution failure: DOMAIN_COPYIN_FAILED".

    Check with support, it may be related to bugs MCCET-3047 and MCCET-2972.

    Thanks for the input - I suspect its all gone for good though. How the heck can I trust it now - saving my work is 101?

    Re: OMG LOST ALL TODAYS WORK - WASN'T SAVING

    Helpyou:

    ... it may be related to bugs MCCET-3047 and MCCET-2972.

    Couldn't find MCCET-3047 but MCCET-2972 was fixed in 2019.9.

    MCCET-2972 is described as...

    "Bug Number: MCCET-2972. In some instances, bins did not save after placing resize effects on
    clips.
     "

    Doesn't say for how long this bug would continue for (or exactly what resize effect they're talking about) but not good news if this is what's causing your problem.

    Assuming you don't want to upgrade to 2019.9 in the middle of a project, I would avoid using any resize effect until you've done a manual save and checked it has actually saved. I've had MC crashes in the past when I've been doing effects work, so it's always my policy to do a manual save before hitting the efffects parameters.

    Thanks for the sympathies David - have got up early and clawed back two timelines - its like watching paint dry doing it all again. How could they break such an absolute basic - puts you off ever 'upgrading'!!!

    My timelines for this project are extremely resize effect heavy Bruno... I'm keeping an eye on the save times now as theres no way I cant use this effect - could maybe try a Warp or PiP I guess?  But Resize without the alpha renders quicker and saves space!

    Must say I haven't used the resize effect in years. The 3DWarp tool is my goto for all resizing and positioning etc.

    Bring back 5.5! The most stable version I ever worked on.

    I use it Bruno as it is quick and simple and doesnt carry an alpha - so it renders quicker and saves a 1:1 alpha file on disk.  NEVER AGAIN!!!!

    Hi,

    we had this in an edit.

    We found we had to run 'Background Bin Save' in the console command to resolve this however only in one project.

    we've been lucky not to see this elsewhere

    Re: OMG LOST ALL TODAYS WORK - WASN'T SAVING

    So, I re-did what I lost, in a new bin, making sure it was saving in the attic and in the project folder as I went.  All good...  Master bin showd last save at 19:36... Then i quit the programme and it REVERTED BACK 3 HOURS.  I lost 3 hours work again. I am bloody mortified.

    I had an email with support last night and gave them details, reverted on a few questions,  but they havent contacted me in 24 hours.

    I cant continue like this, losing my work and my time/life.  Marianna - please help.  20 years iv'e been using Avid but have NEVER lost so much work.  How can I trust this system ever again when it shows me it saves but when you quit it unravels it all. This is such a basic.

    I tried some sleuthing and avoiding a quit:

    What is this .wrt file in my SEQ FINALS V2 - BACKUP BIN- it has the right save time of 19:13 time but the save reverted to 16:27

    Quit error:

    QWuit error:

    HOW DO I GET THIS PROJECT DONE GUYS?

    Could it be related to this:

    http://community.avid.com/forums/t/196214.aspx?PageIndex=4

    I guess it won't harm to check what happens if you follow the instructions and make a text file named ReleasedFeatures.ftf in C:\ProgramData\Avid\Support with the following 6 lines:

    {

      "Media Composer": {

        "BackgroundBinSave": false,

        "UnifiedBinSave": false

      }

    }

    Hi there,

    Going through my notes when we had this it was a combination of two faults:

    A) background Bin Save needed to be toggled off

    B) One of an editors go to effects in his kit of parts stopped his bin saving. Also, as soon as you parked on the effect MC would throw up error messages. Recreating the effect rather then drag and drop from old effect bin would mean the edit could carry on.

    Going back to what I mentioned yesterday, this only happened to the one project and since then we haven't had this issue. The Conform and Online/Grade still had a few bugs but much more manageable.

    It does seem you're going through the exact same issues that I experienced so I hope this helps. I'd definately look at the effects issue - it was using pic in pic effects to create montages that caused issue for us.

    Re: OMG LOST ALL TODAYS WORK - WASN'T SAVING

    Support got back to me and suggested an upgrade to 2018.12.8 as it is a known issue MCCET-3047 - I cant find this version only 2018.12.7 so have updated with fingers crossed.  I was avoiding updates as a new policy as they have caused me lots of problems compared to just keeping using a stable if lesser featured earlier version - they give and they take away - but ironically that bit me hard.

    Guess I will be quitting the programme every 15 mins to ensure it doesn 'roll back' alleged saves on a quit or crash...
