I've downloaded the new version of Media Composer. Whenever I double click the .dmg file, a new finder window pops up with icons such as: "Additional Files, Documentation, Install Media Composer, Uninstall Media Composer." However Finder freezes and does not let you double click "Install Media Composer." If I relaunch Finder and select the mounted dmg volume "Media Composer 19.9.0.53409" in the finder side bar I am able to double click "Install Media Composer," however the Installer freezes and doesn't launch. I have the Installer icon in the dock popping up, but no window appears.
I've rebooted and tried this several times. Same problem. I'm on OS X 10.14.6 and a trashcan mac.
Any ideas?

Try to go to the activity monitor and quit Applicationmanagerhelper and Avid Link. The Mac instaler was tested by a bunch of customers many of who are on here. Are you able to drag the dmg file to your internal drive and lanch it from there?

Thanks for the response Marianna. Some more info:
This is a fresh install of Media Composer on a partition that never had a previous install of Media Composer on it.
I have two OS X installs on this system. One on the internal drive that is OS X 10.13.6 that has Media Composer 2018.11. One on an external drive that has OS X 10.14.6. (My test parition for new releases).
I've tried copying the dmg and installer to the internal drive and to try installing from there. That did not work. I tried copying the installer out of the .dmg to another location and then launching the installer and that didn't work either.
I have installed 2019.9, but when try to opne it, it sends me to the Licensing page on Avid Link. I entered my System ID, but under License Status, it says "Unavailable", and I can't change it. How can I activate it? Wht went wrong. (I re-upped a couple of months ago).
Also in Activity Monitor, something along the lines of 'iconserviceshelper' or such. Eats RAM. Kill it. Open Activity Monitor before you start to install.

I'm presently on hold (approaching one hour) on the Avid Customer Care Help Line for licensing issues -- so, I assume I'm not the only one.

what seems to be going on.... I see you are deactivated..... are you using Link 2019.8? whats the issue?
Coming from the PC side, I had an installation issue too -- but this may be useful.
I tried three times to install, finally getting it to work by right clicking on the Avid Media Compser.msi file.
But I THINK what made the difference was clearing the old installation folder from my c: drive. I BELIEVE the new installer was looking into the old folder and getting confused.
Again, this may be my unique case, or it may be a clue to the issue.
While booting up Media Composer 2019.9 I get sent to Avid Link. When I click on Open, the Avid Media Compsoer Activation pops-up.
Under Licenses, it lists my System ID, but under Status it says unavailable.
(Somewhere I read that I was supposed to Deactivate and then Activate.)
Usually, when I upgrade, it just works.
And, yes.... using Avid Link 2019.8
Just an update to my post. I've been trying to do some troubleshooting.
If I'm on my internal boot partition OS X 10.13.6 I can open the DMG and installer just fine. If I'm on the external drive partition that is 10.14.6 I can't open the DMG or install.
Wait wait whhhhhaaaatt? There is a 2019.9? Since when?

Approaching two hours on hold with Avid Help/Licensing issues -- so, again, I suspect I'm not the only one.
I'm on a 2019 Macbook Pro running 10.14.6.
For me the 2019.9 DMG runs just fine from ~/Downloads.
There is a short delay before anything happens, but it does seem to work.
My old laptop would hang for ages during verification, but that was on crusty old hardware...
So I wonder if the unpack fails due to restrictions on "full disk access" in Mojave?
I guess MacOS is more locked down than ever
