Just downloaded and installed the Blackmagic RAW (BRAW) plugin for Avid.
Started a new project and the BMPCC 4K footage links and play back nicely.
Ideally I wanted to trancode to an Avid specific resolution (DNxHR SQ) but when I try to do that I get a warning: The Tanscode cannot be completed because the source contains an unsuported resolution.
I wondered if anyone else had tried to trancode BRAW inside Avid with any success?
That's interesting. DNxHR is supposed to be resolution independent. BRAW 4.6k is 4608x2592, well within what DNxHR can hold. And it's still a 16x9 image. It looks like Avid has hard-coded in the allowable resolutions.

Yeah seems odd. I'm working with UHD (3840 x 2160) 25p.
I tried using the Source Browser window to link to the BRAW files and then do a transcode/import from there - which it appeard to do - but then when I cheked back the file I just had a solid green video with sound.
I've tried every Avid resolution now.
It can work with video mixdown.
Same here the video column says unsupported video in the bin. I also can't transcode. Maybe Blackmagic will fix this in the next BRAW update?
WAIF2318: It can work with video mixdown.
Does anyone have a standard resolution size (e.g. HD or UHD) to try? It would be helpful to test these as well.
On the Blackmagic Pocket 4k it says it can do the following in BRAW
4096 x 2160
3840 x 2160
1920 x 1080
I'll see if my camera has these for recoridng to BRAW then I'll test and see iftranscode option is available in Media Composer for the above, I'll report back.

I was about to start a new thread and came accross this one. I'm having all kinds of problems with BRAW in Avid. The video column shows the clips as "Unsupported" even though the plugin is installed and it doesn't allow me to transcode to proxies (or anything else).
Also when I link the clips, in the name column the naming structure stops at C0 (as in A011_08261412_C0 instead of A011_08261412_C041.braw).
BRAW is just very buggy right now in Avid and my "workaround" is to work in Premiere in recent projects that have been shot on the Ursa Mini and P4K.
Dear Joshua,
I opended a support ticket and call with Blackmagic Europe. It seems the timecode is fixed in th AMA braw lugin for Avid, but the filenme cut off and can't transcode issue is still here. I was told in the ticket it's been logged and reported before, that was a while ago. On posting on the Blackmagic forum a staff member of Blackmagic said they were not told about the filename cut off and that the transcode option not being avaialble in Media Composer, they contacted Avid but Blackmagic never received a reply from Avid, about how to make the transcode work inside Media Composer?
Kind regards,
Thank you for the update, Leo!
Seems to me like this is the kind of thing that should've been sorted out before releasing the plug-in. It's a good thing I did some tests first to see the reliability of the plug-in before committing to cutting a project with BRAW footage in Avid. When I saw all of the issues that were going on, I did the same test in Premiere and there the plug-in is working pretty well and I can edit natively without the need to transcode on my Mac Pro (in Avid, the system starts getting bogged down pretty quick when cutting BRAW natively). So it's been smooth sailing in Premiere. Wish it would just work the way it's supposed to in Avid though because I'm trying to move away from Premiere due to experiencing way too many crashes on a daily basis.
Let us know if you receive any more news regarding the issue!
All my best,
joshua
Hello Joshua,
Exciting now all works. Just got the latest RAW 1.6 plugin from Blackmagic Support page. The full name is not cut off with the clips and guess what we can now transcode direct into Avid from the AMA linked Blackmagic files. All working perfect plus loads of extra metadata is shwoing now of the imported BRAW file.
Thanks,
Thank you for the heads up, Leo! Will download and report how well it works when I get a chance!
I went over to Blackmagic's website and I'm not able to download because the minimum system requirements are Mac OS Mojave and I have to stay with High Sierra in order to be able to keep using my Nvidia GTX 1080ti since Mojave and beyond don't support Nvidia cards on my Mac Pro 2012 anymore.
This is something very annoying that Blackmagic does, they always make it so that you have to have the latest or a very recent version of Mac OS installed in your system to install their products. It is the same reason why I'm forced to use the Resolve 15 Lite even though I have a full license of Resolve 16 sitting around.
Joshua
Are yu able to partition with HS and Mojave?
